Mrs. Norman MacAuley died aft her
home here on Saturday week. She
hail been ill for about two years, the
result of a broken limb. A, resident
-of Goderich for over thirty-five years,
'Mrs. MacAuley was very highly es-
teemed, She was a native of Glae-
gow, Scotland, Her husband and a
family of three sous, Norman and
'Allen of town, • and John of Buffalo,
-survive.
The new Hydro lights were turned
'00 in Ooderich on Saturday eveek and
are most satisfactory.
Mr. Daniel O'Brien, one of Godent
ichni prosperous. yoneg merchants, was
-Married in Stratford one day last
week to Miss Maude O'Grady.
Engineer Wallace Norris was taken
ill during his run from Goderich to
Guelph one morning last week but
gamely stuck to his 'engine until he
'reached Guelph, where he was reliev-
ed and taken to the hospital. He is
said to be recovering nicely. Ile had
had an operation shortly before.
Miss M. Harris spent last week
witli her sister in Detroit.
Mrs. (Rev.) J. T, Legear of Lan-
sing, Mich., has been the .guest of
ler •sister, Mrs. (Dr.) Whitely.
Mr. W. E, Martin was married in
London last week to Miss Carrie T.

Mr. and Mrs, John Hughes have

Mich, alter a visit with the parents

The new clock has been installed in

print -ehe staff, under the new post-
master, will be at work in the new

The funeral of the late J'arnes r.
Carter of Sarnia, formerly of Sea -
forth, took place front the morning
train on Tuesday of last week, 'in-
terment' being made in Maitlandbank
cemetery. The late Mr. Carter wan
interested for many years in the salt
producing industry in Western Ontar-
io. It is nine years since he left
•Seaforth. He was much interested
jn matters educational ' and estab-
lished the Carter scholarship for sev-
eral counties in Western Ontario. '

in town last week.
Mr. Neil Bethune of Toledo, Ohio,
visited his mother and sister last

Mr. John Elder, a respected resi-
dent of Wingham for thirty-seven
years, paltered away last- week follow-
ing an operation, He was seventy-
four years of age and leaves a wife,
one daughter and one son.

Miss Edith Matheson, a former

derson had left here to go to Ed-
monton, where her eldese son, Albert,
lay dying, word was received of his
death there from typhoid fever• .
"Bert," was well and favorably
known here, and his parente have ;the
sympathy of the townspeople.
