A doll contest put on by one of the
local merchants caused considerable
excitement, but thevoting resulted in
the little daughter of Mr. Charles Far-
quhar of Hillegreen, capturing the
beautiful creation, with a majority of
over 20,000 votes.

Heneall's hAndsome new town hall
was opened on Wednesday night by
a concert, the proceeds to go towards
decorating the building.
Garnet Smallacombe foreman of the
printing department of the Guelph

contingent, is home visiting his par-
ents.
Mrs. Sherry and daughters, Tena
and Agnes, have returned to Toronto
after spending some weeks in their
Hensall residence.
Peter Melville has returned from the
West where he spent several months
visiting relatives.
The local public school teachers were
pleasantly remembered by their pupils
at the closiue exercises of the school
Mrs W. E. Hoggarth entertained
her Sunday school class recently, and
the girls gave her a pleasant surprise
by presenting her with a number of
silverspoons.
Ed. Dignan and wife are home from
the West.
The ladies of the Carmel church prin
crpally the McGregor .Cirle, have con-
tributed 30 quilts and comforters to
the St. Christopher Home, Toronto,
for distribution among the poor of the
city. The children of the above church
have also made liberal contributions
of. toys and other things.

Stanley. The wedding took place at

The late Mr. Miller died here a
week ago last Tuesday at the ad-
vanced age of eighty-eight 'years
Mr. Miller was born in Scotland and
,at the age of twenty-four was an
elder of the Presbyterian Church
there. In early life he moved to
Brucefield where he opened a
tailorshop and'where ,'his .' first
wife died thirty-four years ago,

pen where he engaged: in business'
He Was a man who was a well
known .and of more than ordinary
lability. He was a greatly respect
ed by all. He, leaves a widow, form
erly a Miss Jiohnsiton of St. Louis
to mourn his loss. He 'was buried
in the ROSS cemetery, Brucefield.
