Huron county is pretty well covered,
has a good many thousands of Miles
of circuit and a good many thousands
of telephone users. As will be noted,
too, bhe devolopement of the system
in rural communities has pretty much
all conte about 'during -the past seven
years, 'none of the lines dating fur-
ther back than 1.907 except one, that
of the Mt. Carmel & Centralia Sys -

a six weeks' trip in the States.

Mrs. Arthur Dovey, whose husband
left to join his regiment, has also left

The job of laying 'tile on Edward
street, where Mr. Hill was smother-
ed to death, was resumed by anum-

of Chester :Hill recently in a sewer

till next day.

of the retaining structure in the
trench was faulty, in which case it
is likelyr that the town will he part-
ly blamed for the fatality.
There are twenty-one witnesses in
all, and the case will likely require

'Air. Geo. Brock returned last week
from Muslcdka, where he goes for' an
annual deer hunt. He- brought home
a fine specimen.
Miss Margaret Thompson left on
Thursday for \\'inipeg, where she will
be Married on Friday of this week.
Dr. Bean of Loddon visited Hensall
relatives recently.

Anniversary services in connection
with the Methodist church were
held on Sunday last. Rev, L.
Bartlett of Belmont, in whose pasto-
rate the church was erected four
years ago, was the preacher of the
day. A fowl supper and concert fol-
lowed on Monday evening,
Miss Esther Ida Bellamy, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. L, S. Palmer, died
at her house here a week ago Wednes-
dayt. She was in her twenty-first
year and had been ill for several
months. The remains were taken to
St. Marys for interment,

choice of the Conservative convention
on .Friday last as candidate for the
Legislature.

held in 5't. James' church, Middleton,
on Sunday morning last, The child-
ren led in the sarvine and Masters
Fred 'Middleton and Cole took up the
offering, which was foe' the benefit of
the school.
The supply of teachers very hutch
exceeds tire, demand and until there is
an. evening up the prospect of an ad-
vance in salaries is not great. There'

here twenty --eight students and less
than ten have yet received appoint-
ments.
The evaporator closed yresterday.
17,000 bushels of apples were handled.
The. wages paid out amounted to just
about $1800. The, bulk of the output
was seat to G.ernneny. Nothing is
allowed to go to waste in an institu-
tion of this kind as even the peelings
and cores are dried and shipped to
Belgium whore they aro converted in=
to ,jelly.
