John Walker, Sanitary Inspector of
Ashcroft, B.C., and son of Mr. John

home in B.C. last week. He was
hitt forty-four years of age and leaves
a. widow and one child.

A number attended the meeting in
the town hall en Tuesday evening un-.

Dickens' '"Pals of Two Cities," and
which was remarkably well tod and
much enjoyed by those present.
At the conclusion of it Mr. C. D.
Bouck and Rev. Dr. Rutledge moved
a vote of thanks to the speaker,
whith was unanimously carried. A
collection was taken in aid of the,
Children's Aid work.
Still Another Pioneer Passes
- Shortly, after midnight Mr. Edward
Strachain one of the few remaining
pioneers of Colborne died at -the honte
of his daughter, Mrs. W. H. ,Ball of
of eighty-five years. He is survived
bp three daughters : Mrs. W. H. Ball,
daughters? : Mrs. W. H. Ban, Mrs,
Mrs. George F. Fasquhar of Hullett,
Mrs, J. T. Goldthorpe, Goderieh,
James of Colborne, Edward, in the
west said Albert in New Mexico. The
last mentioned is now on his way
home and the funeral will not, likely
take place until be arriveS.

The Passing of a Pioneer.
Art old resident of Huron County,
one of its pioneers, passed away on
Saturday laSt in the person of Amos
Thomas Ashton of Goderich, who died
at the ripe age of eighty-two years.
The deceased, while for fonty years
a resident of Colborne township and
for the past Len of Goderich, was an
early settler in•this vicinity, his first
farm, being the one now owned by Mr.
Thomas Shipley of the Huron Road,
Nast. Fifty wars ago, however, he
MOV0d. to Colborne and there for for-
ty yeace he fumed, bearing the bur-
den and heat of the day. Ten years
ago he retired front the farm and
moved into Goderich to spend his re-
clining years in ease and comfort.
His wife and a family of two sons
and four daughters survive : John
Ashton, Lion's Head ; George, Ashton,
Colborne ; Mrs. Thos. Edwards, Lon-
don, and Mrs. Jas. Jewell, Mrs. Jos.
Bonilla and Miss Pbothe Ashton,
oderich.
Mr. Ashton was a Methodist in re-
ligion and since settling in Goderich
had been connected with Victoria St.
church. The funeral took place on
Monday, the Services being conducted
by Rev. J. E. Fond. The, pallbearers
were : Messrs. Richard Jewell, Isaac
Fisher, Thos. Jewell, Samuel Warren -
a, G. M. Elliott and John Rogers.
Interment was made in Colborne cem-
etery.
