CELEBRATES HER
84TH BIRTHDAY
The 19t, Marys Argus -ot' last week
makes the following reference to Mrs.
J. Wiseman, of Clinton;, -
"Age cometh on apece,
Buttime's penciling fingers
Touch light the face;
And still the' old, yet very young
•Is beauty, love and Grace."
A very pleasant surprise was given
Monday evening to Mrs. Geo. Grant,
King street, east ward by her neigh
hors and, friends, Mrs, Grant, who is
one of the oldest and most highly es•
teemed residents of St. Marys, was 84
years of age on'this oceassion, and her
many friends heartily Congratulated
her on the happy event of passing an-
other milestone. Time bas dealt kind -
iv with Mrs. Grant, who, although of
advanced years,enjoys splendid health
A most pleasant social evening was
participated in.,. About 10 o'clock an
appetizing 'menu' was served, which
by
was provided the guests. Mrs.
Grant has been n a resident of 4t.
Marys for over `half a ceutur3, She
was horn in Forfarshire, Scotland, and
came to Canada about 61 years ago,
tirstsettling in Stratford, and a few
nears liter, coining to this town.
ales Jieriot. of St Marys, and Mrs.
Wiseman. o4 Oli•,ton, are the only
members of her family who are now
living. The Argas joins her nutn'r-
ous friends in extending hest wishes
for rhe remaining veins of her life.
"Phe Journal also adds its word of
praise to Mrs. Grant; -The poet
Wordsworth in writing "to a young,
lady" said "But an old age serene and
bright and love.y as a Laplaniid night,
shall lead thee to thy grave," Had
Wordsworth lived in our day and in
the Stone Town and been privileged to
spend the evening ot Monday last at
the home of Mrs. Geo. Giant, on
Ring St., South, when her nearby
neighbors gathered to spend a social
hour with her on the occasion of her
84th birth lay, he would have penned
the same lines of her, for upon no
citizen of the old town does old age
sit more serenely and mole tender.
Her freedom from bile moral and tem-
peramental disturbs TWOS that tamper
with the serenity of the average life,
has left her in nld ago wil.h the ealnt•:
,n Is, the tranquility, and the Sweet-
ness of youth. Her -cheery word and
beneficent smile are in inspiration to
young and old and that she may con
tinue in the future es in the pact to
grow younger as she' grows older is
the wish of bei. every' friend and all
her ne.ghhore.
.Moudav evening's gathering was a
most eu1oyable one - a little sur
prise in a social way by her immediate
neighbors who called to congratulate
and remained f it en evenings pleas
ant intercourse, after which light re-
freshments were served by the hostess
including Mrs. Grant's widely known
Snotch oat cakes. Yes, Mrs. Grant is
