Lesson V. -Fourth Quarter, For
Oct. 31, 1915.
Text of the Lesson, 11 Kings xi, 4-12.
Memory Verses, 11, 12 -Golden Text,
Prov. xiv, 11 --Commentary Prepared
by Rev. D. M. Stearns.
Apart from the story of Ahab we
baps only considered the lives of Jero-
boam, who made Israel to sin, and that
of good Xing Asa. The story of the
ten tribes and their kings was bad all
through, and, although Jehu destroyed
Baal out of Israel, yet he took no beed
to walk in the law of the Lord God of
Israel with all his heart, but departed
not from the sins of Jeroboam (II
Kings x, 31). As to Judah, the two
tribes, Jehosbaphat, who succeeded his
father, Asa, was a good king on the
whose, but his fellowship with the king
of Israel was bad, and he was reproved
for it in these words: "Should'est thou
help the ungodly and love them that
'bate tbe Lord?" (II Chron, xviil, 1;
xix, 2,) See also II Chron. xx, 35.
Jehoshaplxat was succeeded by his son.
'Jehoram, who reigned only eight years,
but made his mark decidedly for evil,
for he married the daughter ofthat
wicked pair, Ahab and Jezebel, and
walked in the ways of tbe kings of
Israel like the house of Ahab. He snf-
fered terribly in lits body and from his
enemies, according to a message from
theLo o r
d byElijah, ii
j and departed with-
out being desired (II Chron. xxi, 5, 0;
xif, 15; xviil, 20). All his sons were
slain except the youngest, Ahaziah, and
be became king at the age of forty-
two and reigned only one year. He
walked in the ways of the house of
Abab, for his mother, Athaliah, and
others of the house of Ahab were
his counselors to do wickedly (II
Chron. xxii, 1-4). He was slain by
Jehu, and when his mother saw that
ber son was dead She slew all the seed
royal of the house of Judah, or thought
she did. But the living God, who will
let nothing of His word fall to the
earth, was watching over the seed of
the kingdom (II Sings x, 10; sl,, 1,
margin).
The sister of Ahazlab, solo was tbe
wife of Jeholada the priest, somehow
stole the baby Joasb and hid him and
his nurse In a bedchamber in the house
of God for six years, during which
time Athallah reigned over the land,
and what a reign it must have been!
(II Kings xi, 2, 3; II Cliron. xxif, 10.12.)
But in due time deliverance always
comes, and In the seventh year Jeholada
the priest arranged to have Joash pro.
claimed king, taking every precaution
to have everything done in due order
and to prevent any miscarriage of
events. He gathered the Levites and
the rulers and the captains by hun-
dreds in tho house of the Lord and
allowed them the king's son and said,
"Behold, the king's non shall reign, as
the Lord bath said of the sons of Da-
vid," and all the congregation made as
covenant with the king in the house
of God (verse 4 and II. Chron. exiii,
1-3). As one day is with the Lord. as
a thousand years and a thousand years
as one day, one cannot help thinking
of the seventh thousand years when
the devil, whom Atbailah so well repre-
sented, shall be shut np in the pit and
there shall be a fulfillment of the words
"Set have I set my Sing upon my holy
hill of Zion" (Ps. fl,, 0). All through
the book there are go many foreshad-
owings of the coming kingdom upon
which our hearts should be constantly
set. for all the sufferings of this pres-
ent time are not worthy to be com-
pared with the glory that shall be re-
vealed in us (Rom. viii, 18). Jeholada
arranged all in their places, with in-
structions to those with weapons to
compass the king roundabout, and he
brought forth the king's son and anoint-
ed him, crowned him, gave him the
testimony and made him king, the peo-
ple clapping their hands and saying,
"God savethe king" (verses 8, 11, 12).
Jeholada made a covenant between the
Lord and the king and the people that
they should be the Lord's people, and
all the people of the land rejoiced, and
the city was; quiet
Joash was seven years old when he
began to reign (verses 17, 20, 21). They
broke downthe house of $ani and
broke in pieces tboroughly his altars
and bis images and slew Athaliab, that
wicked woman with the sword, and
the priest appointed officers over the
house of the Lord (verses 18, 20). It
must have seemed like a change from
hell to beaven for the people of Judah.
What will it be for the whole world
when a king shall reign in righteous-
ness, and the work of righteousness
shall be peace, and the effect of right-
eousness quietness and assurance for-
ever! (Ise, xxxii, 1, 17.) The readers
of these lesson notes may think that I
quote some passages very often, but
it is because they mean so much to
me. They are my meat and drink,
May they all mean more to each of us!
Joash is the youngest king of whom
we read, but good ging. Josiah was
but one year older when he began to
reign ('II Kings xxff, 1). Every good
king was in some measure a type of
Him who when He was but a babe
was worshiped as King of the Jews
'(Matt. it, 1, 2, 11), but 'who is still
waiting for His kingdom. Joash 1102
wonderfully preserved that the word
of the Lord concerning David and his
kingdom might not fail, mad we may
be quite certain that the other emir-
maces
ssaymaces to 1)avid whiele are not yet ful-
filled shad be fulfilled to the letter In
Dods, own good time and way. The
promlaes of God are absolute certaha-

A BUSY SEAMSTRESS
She Leaves Work of Destruction Long
Enough to Alter Her Dress
Did you ever know a busier little
body than Miss Millie Moth? And
did any one ever know a vainer little
body than this same Miss Millie.
Some of those queer little folks who
come uninvited into our pantries, or
parlors or cellars are so economical
that they live all through a life time
in one suit of clothes. Not ao with
Millie Moth. Busy little eeamstrese
that she is she makes over her own
best gown" and changes it from a
"tube" skirt to a Russian tunic until
you wonder where ever she gets time
to make those funny little holes in
the carpets and the overcoats.
But jest as soon as the frivolous,
lady sets up housekeeping in the poo
ket of a fur overcoat✓, or the fold of
a broadcloth cape she begins firms -
making. AS she spins and sews, she
nibbles -at the fur or the clot in,
which she nestles and as she grows
wide and long, she fairly outgrows

Then she gets busy "making over";
ebe lets it out here and there and
when one end is finished she turns
right round; puts her tail where her
head need to be and then fixes up the
other end pf that old glesvish-white
dress of hers.
It's only when she leaves the boa
of stored things that Millie Moth
gives up her sowing, The Man of the
House must have his overcoat for
awhile, and the Lady of the HOMO

and then .her dressmaking begins all

CONSTiPATiON
is Productive Of More 111 Health
Than Anythlrrg Else.
If the truth was only known you would
find that over one half of the ills of life
are caused by allowing the bowels to get
into a constipated condition, and the
sole cause of constipation is an inactive
liver, and unless the liver is kept active
you may rest assured that headaches,,.
jaundice, heartburn, piles, floating specks'
before the eyes, a feeling as if you were
going to faint, or catarrh of the stomach
will follow the wrong action of tads ore
of the most important organs of the
body.
Keep the liver activeand working
