Listowel, whose death oceurred on

Era is this week celebrating its golden
jubilee or fiftieth anniversary. Three
men or firms have been mainly engaged
in its publication since it was first issued
on July 6, 1865; Mr. Robert Matheson,
who was editor and proprietor from 1869
to. 1872, and is still living in Chicago:
Mr. Robert Holmes, who conducted it
either himself or in company with his
father from 1873 till 1909, and Messrs.
W. H. Kerr and Son, who have had con
trol since 1909. It is filling the place
of a local weekly quiet as well now as
at any time in its history, and The Bea
con wishes for it continue success,
