Three men or firms have been mainly engaged in its publication since it was first issued on July 6, 1865; Mr. Robert Matheson, who was editor and proprietor from 1869 to. 1872, and is still living in Chicago: Mr. Robert Holmes, who conducted it either himself or in company with his father from 1873 till 1909, and Messrs. W. H. Kerr and Son, who have had con trol since 1909.
