There is a Wrong
Impression Abroad.
Among soma people there is an
impressio'h that it is the. duty of
the Government to furnish lends to
induce men to enlist and to aid re-
cruiting.
This is not correct, enlistment is
voluntary on the. part of the in-
dividual and the Government's re-
sponsibility begins, when the mar
has enlisted. From that moment,
the recruit is taken care of by the
Government, provided with clothing,
equipment, living allowance, and
pay according to rank.
All over Canada, recruiting leagues
have been organized by citizens,
meetings are being held, literature
distributed, in fact,_ an energetic
campaign to aid recruiting. City,
town and county councils have made
liberal grants to recruiting leagues
for the purpose of assisting tion
financially in their patriotic work.
The Government has asked • and
authorized the military officers of
1-Iuron ('Minty to raise a complete
battalion. This can be done, but
it will need the assistance of every
Patriotic person in the county.
Lord Kitchener's plan is to keep
the British Army in vigorous Gower
and strength, while the enemy's
forces arc .becoming ,exhausted.
