grand juryman.

undergoing treatment for rheuma-
tism in St. Joseph's hospital, Lon-

spending some days with her par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald McDon-
ald,
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hannah of Mil-
verton have been spending some
days with their daughter, Mrs. S.

land doing service as an army
chaplain with the rank of captain.
Mrs. L. Greig returned the end of
the week from Toronto, where she
spent a couple of months with her
daughter and son and other friends,
Mr. Frank Karn, at one time a
member of the Nelsons Bank, Clin-
ton, going to the Soverigu and
then to the Royal at London, has
retired from the service,
Mrs. Rachel Shrenlc and Miss Rae
Neilans have accepted positions as
teachers in the new knitting mill
being opened in Kincardine and
have entered upon their duties.
Rev, .J. K. Fairfull preached in On-
tario street Baptist church, Strat-
ford, his former church home, on
Sunday last taking the work of
Rev. Dr. Hughson w,110 conducted
anniversary services in the Local
Baptist church.
Miss Beatrice Greene, who has been
spending the past couple of months
in Toronto, returned home Friday,
morning. She was accompanied by
Mrs. E. J. Jenkins and Master
• George, who will spend several
weeks with friends here.
Mr, Robinson McLean, son of Mr. M.
Y. McLean, Seaforth, was in town
on Monday. He has just returned
from Columbus, Ohio, where he has
been in charge of the publicity de-
pertinent of a large firm, and wish-
ing to do his "bit" for Canada and
the Empire he returned hone to
enlist. His brother Arthur has
gone -with the 33rd Battalion.
Mrs. F. McEwan and Mrs. H. Alex-
ander left Saturday afternoon

remain for the winter months.
Mr, Alexander has been engaged as
mail clerk for the past couple of
months and has his headquarters in
London so that it will be more,con-
venient for him to have his family
in the Forest City, though it is
hoped by their friends in town that
they will not leave Clinton perma-
nently. Thep are closing their
house for the winter.

Miss Netta Simpson of Toronto has
been visiting at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Watt of the Huron Road
and with other friends hereabouts,
Mr. John Crooks is spending his cin-
nual holiday in town. "Jack's"
Clinton friends are always pleased

Mr. 'r. H, Hardy has again joined
the Knitting Companyi as packer

Battalion,
Miss Edna Lavis, who has been at-
tending Normal at Hamilton, has
returned home, the term having
been shortened owing to a case of
smallpox having developed among
the students,
Mr. John Campbell of Vancouver, 13,
0,, brother of Mrs. T. H. Hardy of
Clinton, is in Russia with a com-
pany of contractors- who with a
- staff of experienced Canadians' and
Americans are building much-need-
ed railways. Mr. Campbell is a na-
tive of West Wawaaosh.

Mrs. J. R. Little, aecompanied by
baby Ilene of Essex, is visiting at
the parental home, that of Mr. and
Mrs. Wasman.
Mr. S. 'hemp went to London yester-
day to attend the funeral of his
cousin, Mr. John hemp, who died
on Monday aged about thirty years
and survived by his wile and one
child. The deceased was employed
in the G.T.R. car shops and the.,
employes turned out in a body to
the funeral.
Mr. Russel Marland, lormerlp of
Clinton. while holding a position
at Napalm enlisted in the 80th
Battalion d.E,F. and has been as-
signed to the medical staff, being
the doctor's assistant in the hos-
pital. The News -Record's young
friend is an enthusiastic soldier
and is ready and eager for service
abroad.
Dir. Rockford Stevenson of the Geo-
detic Survep staff,' who spent sev-
eral weeks in town, left on Satur-
day last for his home at North
Wakefield, Quebec; where he will
probably spend the winter. Mr.
George E. McE1royn, also of the
stat'', will remain here until next
season opens up in charge of the
timber depot and of the horses.
Mr. McElroy, whose hone is also
near. Ottawa, has been engaged in
this geodetic work for the past five
years.

Hullett Township
Messrs, '1', McMichael & Son did
well with their exhibits at the Big
Winter Fair at Guelph last week.
Lord Ronald won first and C4lenrae
third in the aged Clydesdale class and
the latter captured first and second
for •the best 2 families. The first fam-
ily consisted of two entries by Robt,
Watt and one by T. McMichael &
Son. The second fancily was made up
of entries by Geo'. Dale & Son, Wil-
liam Rina and T. McMichael Si Son.
In the three year old class Interna-
tional was given second place. Mes-
srs. T. McMichael & Son also . won
second for brood mare and two of
her progeny!. 11r, Robert Watt won
second for yearling filly and Mr, Wm.
Gray third for entire foal. In a hot
competition in which the big breeders
participated Mr. .John Barr captured
the red ticket for Durham bull calf.
The. Fair being bigger and better
than ever before it must be admitted
that Ilullett has every reason to be
proud of its record,

ents, in McKillop when 'Mss Bose
Broom became the bride of Mr. Thos.
Adams of the 6th con. Mr., and Mrs.
Adams have already, taken up house-
keeping on their farm and have the

esters' hall on Fridey evening last
