Mr, and Mrs. Ltake of Oshawa, vis-
ited Councillor and Mrs. Caries and
other friends in town last week: •
A fine reception was given Captains
Sloan. and ,Jewitt, who are in train,
ing for overseas service, by the citi-
zens one evening recently wl'c'sn they

oficers was presented with a purse
of gold. •
There now seems to be a good ;pi os-
pect of a band being started ' here
again. It is some years since there
was a band here, but most of the
material is still here and with the
assistance of some new blood and
under the leadership of S. H. Gidley
who is one of the best in these
parts, the band ought soon to reach
the high state of excellence it formerly
held, Dr, McTaggart and G, A. Tay-
lor started r..

with a Subscription list to assist the
band and in a short time had secured
'the amount desired, $150.00.
Mr. and Mrs, John •-Mepron left
Thursday for California where they
expect to spend a few week.
At a meeting of the, plot -owners of
the Union Cemetery, it was deciifed
to canvass amongst the owners to get
money to maintain a man to keep,'
the cemetery in better condition,
Mrs. D. Kelly was seriously injured
in a collision between a buggy and
Lloyd's, fruit time!: from Goderich.
With her nephew, D. McCaughey,
Mrs, • Kelly was driving about three
Miles opt, and though they claim to
have turned oft the road, the truck
struck the rig and overturned it. The
buggy was smashed and the horse in-
jured.
