Stewart of Mary street has been quite ill during the past fort- night, Major Rance of the 33rd Battalion, London, was' home for several days last week. Messrs. Frank Morris and Jas. Crich left last week for London to join the third contingent. Miss Ada Kindree returned on Sat- urday from St. Thomas where she spent the holiday period. Rev. F. C. Harper was a speaker at the Presbytery Institute held in llensall on Monday afternoon. Dr. Potts, father of Rev. J. C. Potts, was taken suddenly ill ona day last week and has not been feeling suite himself since, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Dennison, who came up to attend the funeral of the late Mrs. Moore, returned to their home at Mitchell on Monday. Mrs, W. 13. Laing of San City, Iowa, who was sent for owing to the ill- ness of her father, the late Thomas Jackson, las bean visiting friends in town this week, Mrs. James Young leaves today for her home at Walton after spending a week or so in town, being called to the bedside of her mother, the late Mrs. E. Moore. Mr. S. H. Brown, who has been em- ployed by tine G.T.R. here for the past year or so, left on Tuesday, for I'etrolea, where lie will conl.inee in the employ of tate big company. Rev. J. E. and Mrs, lord of Gocler- ich were in town on Thursday last calling on old friends, Mrs. Ford being present at the meeting of the Ladies' Aid of Wesley church, which was held at Mrs. W, Cooper's, Rev. P. 0, Powell left Monday for Alberta and will speed the nest few weeks assisting the temperance people of that province in their present campaign for advanced leg- islation along temperance lines. Misses. Delle and Jess O'Neil returned to Toronto on Saturday, the former to resume her teaching duties and the latter her studies at the Uni- versity, after spending the Easter vacation at their home in town. Miss Marjorie Cooper was the guest of her grandmother, Mrs. Wm, Cooper, for a few days last week and on her mean home was accom- panied by her lifothcrs, Masters Norman and Jack, who ind spent the vacation here. Mr. Henry Carrick received word on Saturday that his youngest son, Albert, who has ,been employed at a motor works art Windsor, had gone through an operation for appendicit- is in the hospital 'of that; city - and is now getting better. Mr. and Mrs, J. T. Reid of Varna were in town on Saturday, Mr. Reid's final visit to Clinton prior to leaving for 1111 homestead in Sark., his third year on that par- ticular section. Mr. Reid ..is alvayis optimistic and is hopeful of a good crop in the prairie country. Mrs. A. Osborne, who has been visit- ing lier father, Mr. Thos. Sheppard of town, and with other friends for some time, leaves this week for her home at.Merlin. Combe, during the holiday season: Mt, John 'Suitter has been chosen by Court Maple, Leaf as its delegate to the annual meeting of the High Court to be held in St. Catharines. Major Moore, who is, connected with tate Salvation Army in Toronto, 'was here .all last week owing to the illness and subsequent death of his mother, the late Mrs. E. Moore, Mr. and Mrs. - J. J. The barn of Mr. Phos, Adams of the 9th eon, was struck by lightning On Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Adams were in Clinton at the time but their nearest neighbor; Mr. Stoles, noticed the fire and hurrying to the scene succeeded in extinguish- ing it, Three young calves and a number of hens were stilled and the building was considerably damaged but the wonder Is that it was not completely destroyed.
