The following letter was received last

P. L. P.,Society.-
Somewhere in France
Oct., 17111, 1916:
Dear Miss Cole.,
Secy., Y. L., Patriotic S,,
Goderich Twp,,
It gives nae great pleasure to comply
with your request for acknowledgement
of the splendid pair of socks which it was
mmyy good fortune to receive from the
Young Ladies Patriotic Society of your
township. •I received the socks when
they were distributed by the battery over
two weeks ago and they were more than
welcome, because at that time it was very
wet and it seemed' like a gift from the
God's to receive dry, warm socks. ; The
reason of the delay in writing was not
due to lack of appreciation, hut because
we were called into action. and when we
are in the gun position, we are too busy
distributing so ,venins amongst Fritz to
have trine -tor letter writing. We receiv-
ed our hardest shock yesterday when
our Major and Sergt-Major were both
killed while making sure that all the
men were under cover during a heavy
shelling: They were two of the finest
fellows in the world. Wishing you the
best of luck in your good work.
