David picked up a receiver and placed
it to his ear. The subeditor of the

To Clean Lamp Chimneys
A lamp chimney is one of the most
difficult things to get perfectly clean
without a lot of trouble. Here's a
way to lessen the difficulty, Put a
stick through a rubber ball and cut
slits in the ball. Use this to wash
out the chimney. The elastic surface
of the ball will fit tightly against the
surface of the glass, but will not
stick and can be rubbed as hard as
any one wants without breaking tins
glass.
HARD WORKING WOMEN
Caring for the Colt in Winter. LJ
The, important question of how to erjl
care for the growing colt through the
winter confronts the farmer. Many
colts will be taken from pasture with
a goodly store of fat only to be turn-
ed out to a straw pile for feed and
shelter and will come out next
spring lighter in weight than they The
are now. On the other hand, not a
few colts may be reined by heavy
feeding in stalls, where they cannot
take exercise.
The ideal shelter for colts is a
tightly 'built shed, open to the south,
where the animals may go in and out
at their own pleasure and where they
may have the run' of a good big field
for exercise, 'Idle farm horses can
best be sheltered in the same way. A
dry bed and protection from cold ,
winds and rain, are all that is needed,
Two parts of oats (preferably
crushed) and ono part of bran make
a very suitable feed for 'growing
colts. In cold weather a little corn
may be added, not to exceed 25 per
cent. of the ration: If clover or al
(alfa is used as half of the roughage
ration no oilmeal will be needed, but
if the roughage consists of wild hay
or corn stover about 8 per cent. of
oilmeal should be added to the grain
ration. Where oats are high in telt
price and barley is plentiful a ration site
of crushed barley, 60 per cent.; bran,
30 per cent., and oilmeal, 10 ori benef
cent.. should give good results.

CONSTIPATION
Is Productive Of More 111 Health
Than Anything Else.
If the truth was only known you would
find that over one half of the ills of life
are caused by allowing the bowels to get
into a constipated condition, and the
sole cause of constipation is an inactive
liver, and unless the liver is kept active
you may rest assured that headaches,
jaundice, heartburn, piles, floating specks
before the eyes, a feeling as if yon were
going to faint, or catarrh of the stomach
will follow the wrong action of this, one
of the most important organs of the
body.
Keep the liver active and working
properly by the use of Milburn's Lana -
Liver Pills.
Miss Rose Babineau, Amherst, N.S.,
writes: "Having been troubled for
years with constipation, and trying
various so-called remedies, which did
me no good whatever, I was persuaded to
try Milburn's Laxa-Liver Pills. I have
found them most beneficial, for 'they are
indeed a splendid pill. I can 'heartily
recommend them to all who suffer been
constipation."
Milburn's Laxa-Liver Pills are 25c a

mailed direct on receipt of price by The
