At our annual Clinton Spring -Stock
Show, the best show of tbe Year,
There were horses, grand, magnifi-
cent anti lordly in their class,
There were teams ie harness by the
'score, and tile -harness fixed with
ras
b s.
There were horses large and horses
small and horses medium size,
They were decked with floral gar-
lands and they each deserved
prizes
;But our grave and sedate judges had
the hardest task of all
When our lovely lady drivers reined
their steeds up at their stall,
'Twas a problem,• bard and knotty,
and in this again be wise
They were all so very winning that
they each deserved`0 prize.
And a great and gallant company ar-
rayed in khaki brown,
Had gathered from the comity for a
day in our. town
Thep Marched and they tnanoetivred,
and they filled our hearts with
joy,
And we'll welcome them all back
again, our splendid soldier boys.
Now regarding the spring Weethex of
this 0th of April day
We shall say the 'least we can, you
know it always conies that way
It was surely "Made in Canada" and
as everybody knows
A post mistress at bad weather is
"Our Lady of the- Snows,"
Hurrah for Clinton Stock Show,
three eheers, and three tines
three,
V'e'il all be back again next year,
whate'er the weather 1e,
Till then we'll sing its praises and
nudge it very cleat
That our adiuual Clinton Stock Show
is the best show of the year.

Mr. A, 1-I, Nlusgrovo (North Murcia)
said that a great deal of credit was
• people to the temperance' p
al ple of On-
tario for the results that had been
achieved. Looking back over the
history. of 'temperance agitation in
Ontario any one could see the
growth of the movement, and yet it
remained to a Conservative govern-
ment to come foyivard with propos-
als that now won for it province-,
wide`applause Mr, Musgrove referr-
ed to the pledge given bp the late'
Sir Oliver Mowat,but nothing was
done. The matter was taken up by
the Hardy and Rose Governments
with the referendum that was voted
on at that time. The referendum,
was carriod by a two-thirds major-
ity, but even then ne action was
taken. When the Conservative gov-

mediately set to work to carry out
its pledges. What legislation had
been enacted in successive sessions.
was well known, but there never
was a time when the Government
had been out of sympathy or out
of touch with the temperance move-
ment. This was seen in the gradual
reduction of licenses and finally by
the abolition of the old License
Board and the creation of a Provin-

had been said along that line. To

by the following address
"To 011v:friend, Brother
Erwin,
It IB only when we recall our nume

nus meetings during thepast season
and when we consider tate great ben-
efits derived by each of us from
those gatherings, that we begin .to
realize .what :a debt of gratitude we
owe to you. We 'have always fully,
appreciated, your endeavours, but on-
ly, now on the eve of your departure
have we awakened to the fact that
without 'you we shall be deprived of
that leadership which has always as-
sured us a successful meeting. We
feel that mere word of mouth is not
aufi'cielit`to express our appreciation
of you and your work, so we take
this opportunity of presenting to
you this„pibie and hymn book as
tangible evidence, of our feeliug 'to-
ward you. It is our earnest wish
that your efforts in days to come
magi be rewarded by the creating of
such a feeling of good Will between
men as you. have established be-
tween us and with our b'W1 wishes
may yob have the guidance of Ilia]
without whom none can hope to ac-
complish anything.—Sigeed'ou behalf
of your friends, 'Elizabeth Darrow,
Margaret Green, James Sturgeon.
114x, Erwin, who, it was •quite plain
to be seen, was moved by1 the ex-
pression of personal regard, replied
as follows
year's.
As for the permanency of prohibi-
tion, 3110. Musgrove pointed to his
own county. IIe had spoken to
many men who had voted against
local option in Huron comity, but
wbo would nob vote now to bring
the licenses back. When this meas-
ure is passed and has been in opera-
tion For •two or three years, if it is
well enforced—and we mays be stare
it will be well enforced -the people
will be satisfied with the working of
this act. It will be a- great' help
to the Province.”
Prohibition was social legislation
of an advanced order, and be be-
lieved after it was well tried that
not twenty-five percent, of the
people would be willing to return to
the old order of things.

It is stated on good 'authority that
a mother applied to Mr, 0. J. Wil

stated that the son had a wife draw-

shown that there is among the Can-

front one soldier who has five wives
in Canada, all claiming separation
allowances, two soldiers having four
