A very enthusiastic Liberal meeting
was held in the town hall on Monday
evening last when Mr, Thomas 11c -
Millan, Liberal candidate f(fr South
Huron, with the support of Mr. Love
from I'uckersmith, delivered two very
able addresses, Lewis -Thomson acted
as chairman with the support of Mr.
Dalgutty, of Stanley 00 one side, and
Mr, Mttcltfllen, of Goderich Town-
ship on the other, this Mr. MacMillan
was asked onto the. platform not only 1
because he is a staunch Liberal, but al- I

Mr, C, 1i, Beese has disposed of the
flour mills to It commis' to be known
as Blyth. Milling Co. with Mr. M. L,
Zeigler, of Cargill, as vice president and
general manager, the new firm to take
possession on December 1st. it is the
intention of the company to run the
mill to its full capacity and will erect
large warehouses. They have already
lied an official of the C.P.R. looking
over the grounds with the intention of
putting in a switch to the mill.
Dr, J, A. McTaggart, who for the
past eight years has conducted dental
parlors in Blyth, left on Saturday Tor
Toronto where h@'has opened ofce§ on'
the corner of Bloor and Dovercourt.

Distressing indeed was the news that
reached helve on Monday that Pte. Wm.
Hamm, who was already wounded in
Prance,- had -had his right leg amputat-
-ed and his arum severely injured. Blyth
will await further detail with anxiety.

Capt. C. R, Carrie, son of Mrs.
Carrie, of Cambria street, wino has
been in France in Y,• M. C. A., work
for the past three years, arrived home
last night from the front. 11e was
attending Oxford University when the
war broke out, and enlisted in the
Y. 'M. C. A, work. He is home on a
three months' furlough, and will spend
his time on leave in securing funds to
carry an the Y. mi. C. A. work at the
front,
A investigation into the lire at the
plant of the Gudeieh Manufacturing
Company on August 21 last, is being
conducted et the courthouse, with
Chief Fire Marshall Lewis, of Toronto,
presiding.
Among other things the investiga-
tion is revealing the fact 'that the town
Is in Medal of a more modern tire
alarm system. The firemen did their
work well at this particular tire; but
the whole building• was in flames wizen
they reached the plant,
Mrs, D. Bell, Britannia road, received
a telegram that her son, Wilfred Bell,
of the machine gun Section, had been
gassed and.is seriously ill ,in hospital,

Rev, Mr, Emmett, representing the
Hanley Fisher evangelistic party, was

churches and arranged to have this
party come here for a union evangelist-
ic campaign, beginning the first Sunday
of Fehru:try, under lite direction of the
Ministerial Association. A preparatory
campaign has been under way for six
weeks. Twelve union neighborhood
prayer Ineetings are being held every
Thursday night and union church pra-
yer meetings twice a month,
Joshua Allis, lennmler received a
telegram stating that his son, Sergt.
Harold Joshua Allis, had been admit-
ted to a hospital et Rouen on Novem-
ber 16, with gunshot wounds in the
left arm and head,

est in Huron County, and also in Gode-
rich. The objective of hyo and one-
quarted millions for the county was
practically trenched on Saturday night.
The objective for Goderich was passed
some days ago. The churches of the
town observed the victory loan on Sun-
day, when special reference to the im-
portance of the loan. wits made by the
clergy of the lawn.

James (lays of the firm of hays &
Chapman, marble dealers, Seaforth,
has received word that his son, Corp.
Howard Hays, infantry, had leen odi-
ctaly reported admitted to County of
Middlesex War Hospital, Napshury,
November 15, with gunshot wound in
right buttock. Ile enlisted with the
Princess Patricia machine gun section
:about two years ago, this being his
first injury.
A welt -known Seaforth business elan
passed away Monday evening in the
parson of +11r. Matthew Williams, death
terminating a long 'illness. The late
81r. Williams was in business for maty
years in Cromarty, Dublin and Seaforth
and was widely and favorably known.
Besides his widow, live daughters sur-
vive: Mrs, Dorsey, Duluth; .'hisses Kate
Millie and Ethel Williams, In Seaforth,
and muss marguerite Williams, when is
teaching in the West. The funeral
takes place on i hursday.
WROXETER
Otlieial wordhas been received by
John McNaughton of 'l'urntlerry town-
ship that his youngest sun, Pte, Colin
:McNaughton, was killed in action. He
enlisted with the (65th Oxfords, going
overseas a little over a 0120' ago. Ile
was 23 years of age. Prior to, his en-
listment he leas employed in tine Royal
Bank at Glencoe. Another brother,
Sergt. Junes McNaughton, has been at
the front for two years.
Word has been received here 'of the
death In a hospital in British Columbia
of Sarah Young, relict of the hate Thos.
Gibson, who for 25 years represented
East Huron in the local Legislsttfre.
She was born at Lakelet, where she
spent her younger days,: coming til
Wroxeter alter her Ittdrl'iage. She IS
survived by one married daughter, with
whorl she had made her home for sev-
eral years.

' The League will hold Its annual
meeting for electfun of 0(8110rs at the
home of Alr. George Layton next Tues-
day evening. Everybody come and get
an office.
The League Box Social last Tuesday
night was a good success. The pro-
ceeds of over 825 goes to the Red
Cross.
The Ladies of the League are making
a quilt and when finished will be sold
and proceeds will go to the Red Cross
Fund,
Mr, N, Livermore was a visitor at
Londesboro on Tuesday,
AUBURN.
The funeral of Edna J. MacDonald,
wife of Rev, J. L. Small, was held pri-
vately 180111 the Presbyterian manse at
liespeler. Rev, Messrs, Little, of Galt,
and L. M. Leckie of Kirkwall, conducted
the services, Directly after the private
service, held at the manse, a public ser-
vice was held in St. Andrew's church.
Mrs, Small was 29 years old, and
went to liespeler from Blyth, live years
ago, She died from an attack of pneu-
monia, contracted about a week ago.
She was an active church worker and
patriotic organizer. Besides her hus-
band, two children survive. The de-
ceased was a former •resident of this
village before her marriage.
