Canadian public life will sustain a
substantial loss when at the end of the
present Parliament, Mr.,Andrew Bruder
M.P. for .Dundas,- Ont., retires on ac-
count of failing heath, in many ways
Mr, Broder has been a useful public
servant, faithfully and .worthily repre-
senting the old county of Dundas and
bringing wide experience, sound judg-
ment, and lofty patriotism to tl>e dd-
liberations of the House of Commons.
He is the type of rpresentative that
rural constituecies should seek to se-
cure—a num of the people directly
interested culture in r with a
agriculture and t

practical knowledge of the Dominion's
greatest industry, possessing a business
training, a sound general education,
and 'gifted with powers of expression
that command the attention of the
House, These high qualifications Mr.
Broder possesses, and during twenty
years he has d8voted then] to the ser-
vice -of his constituents and of all
Canada, The more members of the
Andrew Broder type that the farmers
of Canada send to Parliament the better
it will be for then and for the public
fife of the whole country,
Mr, Broder's father came from, Sli-
go County, Ireland, and his mother
from the City of Belfast. He was
burn in Franklin, Huntingdon County,
Quebec, and educated at the Hunting-
don Academy, noted for the nuniber
of its sons who have distingguished
themselves in various walks of life,
Removing -to Eastern Ontario, Mr,
Broder engaged in farming, and the
business of a general merchant. In
1892 he was appointed collector of ens^
toms at Morrisburg, resigning the post
in 1896 in order to be a candidate for
Parliament, He was elected and from
that time to the present he has repre-
sented Dundas in the House of Com-
ment,
Owing to failing health, Mr, Broder
has declined nomination.

Last Saturday the buys who have

Clinton team and Seaforth resulted in
the Seaforth team being easily defeat-
ed. One innings they never got to
first base and their pitcher needed
more practice. The Clinton players

ter, E. Libby and N. Seeley.
In the evening a splendid program
was given in Cardno's Hail with the
Mayor as chairman, Mr. 'Thomas Mc -
Milian gave a short speech also Mr.
Proudfuut, of Goderich. Corp. Clar-
ence Smith, who has been in every
battle which the Canadians have been
engaged in and has never been wound-
ed spoke briefly. Another hero Pte.
Percy Roth also spoke,
Mr. Proudfuut spoke of the splendid
service rendered by the boys of Ont-
ario. Eight thousand boys from the
towns and cities and twelve thousand
f'armer's sons have been helping this
