boquet of carnations 'and ferns. The
bride entered the parlor leaning on the
arm of her father taking her place under
an archnf evergreens, while the wed; in r
parch was played by Miss Ida, sister of
the bride. After congratulations they
repaired to the dining room, where the
wedding dinner was served: The groom's
gift to the bride was a pearl pendant
and to the pianist a beautiful brooch.

The annual meeting of the rate payers
-of school section No, 1 Stanley was held
,on Wednesday, December 27111, 1916,
when a considerable amount of business
of importance was transacted, the most
unique being the resignation of Mr.
Malcolm McEwan front the school board,
after a continuous service of 40 years.
This resignation coning so soon after
that of Mr. Bairn who served so faith
fully as teacher in this section for half a
century, finds we think no parallel in the
history of the public school of Ontario„
Their work together as teachers in the
,Sabbath School, held in the school room
for eight months of the year, has been an
influence for good Chat cannot be told,
The passing of Mr. McEwen from the
school hoard will leave a gap not easily
filled, Acting as Secretary Treasurer
fqr so long a term, he has held the best
interests of the school at heart, and the
esteem and confidence of the people. IIts
retirement was accepted with much
reluctance by the board of ratepayers in
general, but owing to ill health he 1 felt
unable to continue. Mr. Alex. Mc&wan
was the unantious choice or the meeting
to fill his place and the board now
consists of Neil 11AUre;;or, Edward Glen
and Alex A'IaEwen. 'l'Ite school las
been thouroughly remodelled [luring the
past year. It has been raised, a cement
basement and floor placed underneath,
new siding put on, painted within and
without, and a new heating system
installed. Which with its extensive
library and other u,1 to date egnipnlent
places it among the first of the rural
schools of Ontario.
