After an illness of a couple of weeks,
though in failing health for the past
year or so, Mr. John Johnson passed
away last Friday at the age of 70 years
and 7 months. He was a native of
Goderich Township, and has resided in
tow')) for the past 40 years. Besides
his widow, he ie survived by two sons,
John, of Wingliam, and Edward of town
and one daughter, Mrs. Chas. McKin-
ifon, of Sault Ste, Marie. The funeral
was held on Monday afternoon, Res. J.
A, 'Robinson conducting the services at
the house and grave, The pallbearers
were:—E. Scrutan, M. Mc1wan, J. K.
Wise. W, Grant, J. Johnston and J. P.
Shepherd.

military authorities, for all Wren in cate-
gory "D", who were examined last fall
and who were placed in 1) class until
their physical fitness was finally deter-
mined, 'Mose examined will hear from
the military authorities next Monday. h

Granddaughter Died
Rev. James :Ford, of Goderich, re-
ceived news last Thursday that his
grandchild. Willa ,Margaret Bran, had
died in Toronto. She was taken there
for ireafulent a couple of weeks ago.
She was a• daughter of Mrs. (Ih) Bean,
who was so badly burned when their
residence tt Couseeou was destroyed
by fire hist August, and Dr. Been lost
his life. Mrs. Bean is still confined

stairs window from which Mrs. Lean
had to jump to save her own and her
baby's life. The remains of the little
girl .were taken to Goderich where a
private service was held Saturday
afternoon at Rev. Mr. Ford's residence.
Interment was made at Clinton on
the arrival of the 3 o clock train,
