Pte. Norman I-Iolland of he London

at his home on the Bayfield Road,
south of town.
Mrs. R. Sweet and Mies Myrtle left
yesterday for Sarnia, - where they
will spend the vacation tune with
Mr. Sweet, who has a position
there.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Brown aad little
Miss Beatrice and Miss Audrey Mc-
Intyre motored to Mitchell on
Sunday and spent the day with
friends.
Mr. Whittington and son Fred and
daughter Miss Daisy of Burk's
Falls motored down and spent a
few days during tltel past week with
the former's mother,
Miss Garrett of Washington, D.C., is
expected today and will spend a
few days with her niece, Miss
Ward, principal of the School of
Commerce, before settling is her
cottage at Bayfield for the; sum-
mer.
Mr. Henry Baker, who went to Al-
berta in -the spring to seed his
farm, returned on Tuesday. Mr.
i3aker reports prospects bright
for a good western harvest; says
he never saw crops loolc better.
1 -lo has disposed of his farm, hav-
ing received a good offer for it,
but will probably purchase another
before the snow (lies, Mr. Baker
says both farmers and townsmen
are planning for the harvest in the
west and that every kernel of grain
that ripens will be carefully gar-
nered,
Prof. Fred C. Elford of the Agricul-
tural Dept., Ottawa, was in town
on Saturday. Prof. Elford is on
his way to visit the Experimental
Farms of the Western Provinces
and having a week at his disposal
he came up to assist his brother-
in-law, Mr. S, T. Walter of Goder-
ich township, with his haying. It
cannot be said of him that he
farms by theory, he's not afraid
to take off his coat and prove that
his theory .is correct., Prof. Elford
is one of Goderich township's old
boys who has made good in the
big outside world and whom suc-
cess has not spoiled. There's
scarcely an old boy among -thein
Who receives a heartier welcome
when he visits the old township
and who is more unaffectedly .glad
to see his former friends and neigh-
bors, Mrs. Bilotti accompanied her
husband and is visiting her par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs, A. J. Courtice
of Holmesville, and other friends in
the township,
Mr, and Mrs. John Moon and Mas-
ter Jaok, Mrs, M'oon's sister, Miss
Edna Hoffman, and Mrs. T. 11.
Colo, formerly of Londesboro,
passed through Clinton on Thurs-
day evening, calling on a few
- friends. They were on their way
home to Tatou to after a visit to
Londesboro, having also called at
Sebringville ,and Stratford on their
way up. As the roads and weath-
er were line they thoroughly en-
joyed their motor trip, Mr, 37'oon
likes to slake an annual visit to
the old home locality. He reports
business brisk in the Queer, City,
says be has sold more property
during the past spring than lu any
one season during his eight years'
experience in the real estate bits -

Air. and Mrs, Wesley Cole of San-
dusky, Mich., have been ',isiting
friends in Goderich township and
in Clinton during the past v eek.
Tho former is an old Goderich
township boy, son of the late Pet-
er Cole and a brother of Mr, Pet-
er Cole of that township. It is
twenty-seven years since he visited
the old hone community and it is
needless to say that he finis many
changes. They were. guests over
the week -end of :lir. and Mrs, A.
McCartney.

ship Yesterday
A very pretty wedding was solemn-
ized at high noon yesterday at the
residence of Mr, and Mrs. Joseph
Colclough, 1.1th eon., when Miss
Hattie was united in the bonds of
holy matrimony to Mr. William
Thackaberry, Stratford. The cere-
mony, which was conducted by Rev.
Wm, 11Touiton, L. Th., was perform-
ed under a floral arch erected on the
lawn. After the wedding breakfast
Mr. and Mrs. Thaekaberry left by
auto for Goderich, thence to Strat-
ford where they will reside in future.
Among the guests present were Mr,
and Mrs, Sours and Miss Gladys,
Clinton ; Mrs. Alexander, I:Iensall ;
Miss Hoy, Avont1o11 ; Miss Rice, Ful-
lerton ; Mr, Quinlan, Stratford, and
Miss Livermore, Clinton,

Mr. Robt. McCartney recently vis-
ited friends at Walkcrville,
Miss Calvet and Miss George of
Walkerviile were recent visitors at
the home of Mr. Robt. McCartney,
A special intercessory service will
be held in St. Jobe's, Holmesville, on
Siluday afternoon next al; '8 o'clock
(new time) when an Honor .Roll will
he unveiled on behalf of the men
from St. John's parish. A large
attendance is expected at this ser-
vice.
The Orangemen of Clodericlt town-
ship will attend divine service at
the. Methodist church on Sunday ev-
ening, July 7th, when Rev. Bro.
Stoulton and Rev, faro. Sinclair will
address the visiting brethren,
A large number of our people took
in the lawn social at Ebenezer and
report a very dire tine.
Mr, and Mrs, F, C. .Elford of Ot-
tawa ate visiting in the vicinity.
Both are warmly Welcomed back to
the hone community. Mr. &Word
gave an interesting talk on the work
of the Food Control Board in the
League melee on Monday night.

The committee in charge of the
Dominion Day sports are leaving no
stone unturned to assure an inter-
esting day. There will be something
doing all clay long, a good concert
at night at which several well-
known Clinton artists will take
part, and somebody mentioned a
dance, though we're not going to
vouch that 1 there'll be one. But
there will be enough of sports to
satisfy any reasonable person.,
Mrs. (Rev.) Toimie and daughter,
Miss Ferg Tolnnie, of Windsor arriv-
ed last week and are now enjoying
balmy, breezy Bayfield at their sum-
mer cottage "Shingle Shacks."

burg were the guests of the former's
son, Mr. S. Ripfor, over the week -
Miss Bronson of Detroit is a
guest at Mrs. Bailey's for the season,

summering n Mrs, Ross' cottage,

Misses Catherine and Julia Rankin
arrived last week and are now en-
joying their summer cottage on the

Mr. Delors Parker and wife of
Pontiac, Mich., aro the guests of
Mr, and Mrs. John Sturgeon,
Mr, Fred Beath, wife and daugh-
ter, Miss Dorothy Heath, of St.
Catherines arrived last week and
have taken possession of the summer
cottage en ting Terrace, "The Ced-
ars."
Miss Coleman of Varna was the
examiner at the Public school ex-
aminations here last week while 3Iiss
Geddes went to Varna.
Mr. George Fisher, wife and two
children of Waterloo were the guests
of his aunt, Mrs. F. A. Edwards,
over the wreck -end.
Mrs. Loree and two children or
Nanton, Alta., are visiting the
former's mother., Mrs. Wm. Sterling.
Special day of intercession will be
held In St. Andrew's church on Sun-
day.
Miss Geddes, who has been the suc-
cessful principal or 13n.ylicld Public:
school for two years, was tendered
an address by the pupils on Wednes-
day and presented with a handsome
silk umbrella.
Rev, 11. L. Dickson, who recently
returned from ilie mission I)eld or
the West Indies, is a guest with
Rev, W. Aehe-Everest and nMrs.
Ashe-Everest at the rectory. Mr,
Dickson after Mr. Ashe-l,verost are
old friends. A brother of the latter
went to the West Indies with Mr,
Dickson but returning to England he
enlisted and has since been repotted
missing. The Rev, Mr. Dickson will

their regular meeting in the Fores-
ters hall on Thursday, July 4th,
when Mrs. 31. llrown and Mrs, Wm,

The Methodists will hold their an-
nual garden party on the parsonage
lawn on Friday evening of this week
and the Presbyterians have theirs

Rev. Wm. Raithey, 31.A., a bro-
ther of Messrs. John, George and
.lanes Raithby of Auburn, who en-
listed with the 114th Brock Rangers
of Halditnand County, and went ov-
erseas as n sergeant and who was
severely gassed lass, fall, has now
sufficiently recovered to be able to
return to France and le engaged In
Y.M,C,A. work there, Mr. Raithby
was pastor of the Dunnville Baptist
eltureh at the time of i his enlist-
ment.
