Ferne Chapman of Ripley were re-
cent guests at the home of Mr. E.
Corbett.
Fire, which originated from an
overheated stove on Thursday after-
noon, eompietely, destroyed the dwell-
ing house of J. 1-Iallawap, nearly 90
years old, who lives on a small farm
in Tu•rnberry township, just a mile
northeast of the town. The old
man, a widower, was alone itt the
house at the time, his daughter,
with whom he lives, being in Wing -
ham. Neighbors rushed to the scene,
but the fire lfrd gained too great a
h soon and the building. t g� was s on in
ruins. Practically all the contents
of the home were also burned. The
liottse was one and a half story and
the loss on it alone will be about
$700. • It is believed there was not
much insurance. •
