Wingham.
Charles . Pogson of Wingham is in
his 100th year, and still able to walk
a few utiles for exercise, or dig in
his garden, where he raises vegetables
for his own use. IIe is fn robust
health, and with the exception of
once, when he was injured by a horse,
he has never required the.services of
a doctor and knows nothing of sielte
ness. He is a bachelor, but does not
claim that his longevity is due . to
this fact. Mr. Pogson is a native of
Lancashire, England. After coming
across the Atlantic he•lived for a
number of years at Plattsfleld. Thir-
ty years ago he came to Wingham
where he now resides, at the- corner
of Minnie and Victoria streets.
Mr. and NIrs. harry Diamond,
Bluevale, announce the engagement
of their eldest daughter, Mary Agnes,
to Alfred L. Poslilf, Wingham. The
marriage will take place quietly in

Goderich
The death of Ilugh I.: Strang,
L.L.D., one of the prominent educa-
tionists of the Province, occurred at
bis hone hero on Friday in his sev-
enty-eighth year. Dr. Strang was
horn at Galt, the son of the late
Rev. Mr. Strang, and at an early
age entered the teaching profession,
coming to Goderich from OwenSound
in 1871. -He was for forty-six years
on the staff of Goderich Hight school
and Collegiate Institute, being head
master for thirty-five years. IIe was
president_of the Ontario Educational
Association for a term, was a mem
bcr of the Provincial Advisory Coun-
cil of Education, a member of the
University of Toronto Senate, and
was the author of several school
textbooks. IIe. held a unique place
in the regard of his pupils, and in
August; 1907, was honored 1>y a
Strang Old Pupils' Reunion, which
brought together 'men of prominence
Prom all parts of the continent. He
retained to the end a lively interest
in public affairs in general, but
throughout his long and active lire
was pre-eniinently associated with
progressive educational movements.
