Mr. Jos. Brown has disposed of his
fifty acre farm on the gravel road
north of Lon 'tboro to Mr. Albert
Weymouth, Wdlowdale, North Toron-
to, possessicin to be given April 1st.
Mr, Brown will have an auction sale
some tithe before that date. -Mr.
Brown, we understand, contemplates
going into thegrocery business, but is
as; yet undecided where he will locate.
The Twenty -Fifth Poultry -Show
The twenty-fifth Annual Exhibition
pf the Huron County Poultry and Pet
•Stock Association will be held on Tues-
day, Wednesday and Thursday, Dec-
ember 21st, 22nd and 23rd, at the
Town Hall, Goderich. Remember the
date. The prize lists have been issued
and exhibitors and the general public,
it is hoped, will unite 44 make the quar-
ter century year of the Association a
record.
The Methodist Sunday School will
hold their "White Gift" service on Sun-
day morning next, Dec. 19th.
Both Methodist and Presbyterian
Sunday Schools are busy practising for
their Xmas entertainments to be held
next week.
The Women' i Institute will hold a
social evening on New Year's eve.
Everybody come, all are welcome and
watch the New Year in. A program,
games and lunch will be given.
The children of the village are all
taking the mumps in turn. Quite a
few have them at present.
Thereare prospects of having our
Village lighted with electric lights. It
certainly would be nice theie. dark
nights.
Mrs. Ball is home again after spend-

The Annual Meeting of the W. A.
of St. Thomas Church, Seaforth, was
held in the school room on Tuesday
last. There was god attendance and
the reports from the officers showed a
successful year. All the old officers
we re-elected.
Mr. R. M. Jones; who has been man-
ager of the Doininion Bank here for
some years has been transferred to
Guelph and his place here is being
filled by Mr. B. MacDonald, of Tor-
onto, son of Mr. D. MacDonald, local
registrar, of Goderich. Mrs, Jones will
remain in Seaforth fo some time.
The First Presbyterian Church held
their Anniversary service Sunday last.
Rev. Dr. Martin, of Stratford, preached
both morning and evening to large
congregations. His sermons were very
much appreciated. Mr. Livens presided
t the organ in his usual efficient man-
ner. The choir under the able leader-
ship of Mrs. Mullen ' in the morning
. delighted their listeners. A duet by
'Mr. and Mrs. Mullen in the morning
and a sola by Mrs. Mullen in the even-
ing being especially plea.sing. The of-
ferings at both services were giner-

Turnberry Townahip,--A well known
resident of Turitberry, passed away
Wednesday mornleg, Deeember 1st, in
the parson of Bridget Meehan, wife of
Petrick Meehan, at the ripe olci age of
100 years. Mrs. Meaban was a W0111011
of remarkably strong constitution and
had neves' suffered an illness, until a
few years ago, whee she fell fracturing
a limb, since she has been confined to
her bed at the home of her son, An-
thony.
Wroxeter:—A barn on the farm of.
Alex. Higgins, Howick, was totally de-
stroyed by fire with the season's crop,
at 6 o'clock Tuesday evening. The fire
was caused bc the upsetting of a lantern
on the barn floor,
Walton:—John Smillie has disposed
01 50 acres of West Half of Lot 7; Con-
cession 17, Grey Township, to John
Bolger, a neighbor, for the sum of
$3,000. This gives the latter a fine
farm of. 150 acres now. Ray Bennett
bought the 32 acres South of the C, P.
R., from Mr. Smillie, paying $2,000
for it. Mr. Smilie retains a tidy plot
of -30 acres on which he and Mrs, Smil-
lie will continue to reside.
Morris Township:—The barn on the
Somerville farm 5th line, now owned
by M. McVettie, Brussels, has been
sold to David Sanders, Ethel, who is
having it taken down and removed to
'help replace the one destroyed by fire
a month or so ago.
Blyth:—J. 11, Stephenson disposed of

Tierney, Former will in all probabil-

and Mr, J. P. Hume, Secretary of the
G. C. I. Board, therefore notified the
Council of Mr. Andrew Porter's resig-
nation from the Board.
The question of civil liability for ac-
cidents on municipal roads was one
which engaged the attention of a re-
cent 'meeting of the Municipal Associa-
tion and the attention of the council
was drawn to the amendments sug-
gested there by which the liability
for accidents would be comfined to
cases where the travelled portion of
the roadway% was out of order. The
condition of the "roadside" would not
constitute liability.—Referred to spe-

On Wednesday morning, under the
head of enquiries, the ,niatter of bor-
rowing money was taken up and fully
discussed. The general opinion pre -
veiled that the ocpenaitura should be

lowed to exceed the estimates' in thei
expenditures, The conclusion was
that a limit should be set in the ex-
penditure of patrolmen. Thel arge in-

Reynolds on behalf of the thildren's
Shelter, addressed the council with
reference to increased assistance to
the Shelter and suggested the advisa-
bility of the county taking the insti-
tutioe over and assuming full con-
trol. The Warden assured Mr, Rey-
nolds the matter wotild receive care-
ful coesideration.
The County Clerk announced the
presentation to the County of gavel
of lignum vitae by Warden Petty for
the use of future Wardens, and the an-
eouncement was received with ep-
plause.t
