THE COUNTRY CORRESPONDENT
The. New Era owes its ysuccess and
popularity in no small treasure to the
staff of correspondents who. send in
happenings in tine rural commhinities
week after week. The work of these
esteemed meinbers of the staff show e
high -degree of excellency. They fur-
nish the news which is of interest to
the readers in the various communities
represented news that is anxiously look
ed for as soon as the paper arrives on
its weekly visits to so many homes:
Beyond all question a modern, new5
paper properly conducted helps to
build tip the community in which it is
published and circetaiece The coon.
try correspondent is really the head of
a department in the•paper a true boost-
er of the district for which he or she
writes, They are the historians of their
neighborhood they keep the weekly
chronicle of events and their respon-
sibility as well es their opportunity, is'
great.
It is a pleasure to note that so many
of the correspondents possess the
true journalistic instinct. What . they
send in their weekly budgets fs fit for
print, Some one 'has said that an01111(19
that Providence permits to !tepee') und-
er the son is worthy of at least a men-
tion in any newspaper. That : is true
but it must be remelnbet•ed in this con
nectiOn that Providence sanctions only
the occurrence of- events that in the
end make for the good of 1ulPubahrity.
The country correspondents are cone
ing more and more hitt) good repute.
Tisch' standing as impo'teet factors in
community 111e Is no longer question-
ed. They are a power in their respect
!ve districts, Sometimes tate big bum -
pilaus city dailies .affect to make light
of the efforts of the rural scribes bet'
the real reason fdr this attitude is that
the city papers canss01 reach the, field
which hs now so thoroughly coveted by
