• enperance People Want the
Government to Assume the
Cost Instead of the
County.
At a meeeting of the Huron County
Temperance "Executive held in 'Clinton
on Friday of last week it was ,decided
to immediately circutate,apetitious ask
ing the Dominion Government •t ,bring
Huron County under the Ontario Tem-
perance Act, and thus have a•uniform
Iaw throughout the Province.
The C. T. A. (or Scott Act) had been
very s;rtisfactory during its enforce-
ment, the last six years, but it will re
lieve the County Council of some Fin-
ancial responsibility, and the License
Board of Commissioners of the Pro-
vince are willing to assume this respon
sibility if the 0. T. A. is accepted.
The Ontario Temperance Act is a
splendid piece of Legislation and in
Many respects is more restricted than
the C. T. A. and the fines inu'eh more
severe.
The C.T.A.,,wil1 not however be re-
. pealed but merely suspended, as local
Option is now in many pii'ices and
should the Provincial law .be set aside
at any future time Huron County would
again be under the C. T. A.
To secure this suspension it will be
necessary to get a petition of at least
twenty five percent of the electors and
the Local workers will organize at once'.
for this campaign.
The vote on the Referendum leafing
with "importation of Liquor" had been
delayed till Apil 18th, 1920 to secure
an up-to-date voters list. •
