A letter was received from the De- puty Minister of Public Works in re - girds to the placing of the captured Geman gun on the Post office square, A letter from the Dunlop Hose Co., Toronto, in regards to the hose order- ed by the Fire and Water Committee, A letter from H. B. Chant, P. U. Superintendent, with letters attached from ex -Mayor Cooper 'to the Post dfflce Department, in regards to the Ornamental lamp at postoffice. On motion of Councillors Johnson and Nediger the captured gun will be placed as proposed by the Government on order of the Mayor. Motion car- ried, Superintendent Chant spoke in re- gards to the Postoffice lamp and an- swered many questions in regards to it. .A motion by Councillors Wiltse and Johnson was reach—That the Council agree to maintain upkeep of lamp, in- cluding renewals for SO0 watt lamp if Government pay for turrent, for the lamp in front of Postoftice. An amendment was introduced by Councillors Nediger and MiddletonTkat Mr. Chant be asked to secure the largest possible grant from Government toward upkeep of lamp at P. JEWITT President of London Conference ..Mr. Jewitt was born of, Yorkshire parentage in Morris township, in the. County of Huron. W. A. SMITH President of Alberta Conference Like many wise men, Alberta's new president collies front the East. Born in Brussels, Ont., he was accepted as a candidate for our ministry in 1893. Wesleyan College, Alontreal, is his alma mater—graduating in divinity in 1898 Mr. Smith was received into full connection the name year by the Lon don Conference his first appointment being 011 City. Ile also travelled West - minister, Wilkesport, Oil Springs, and Ashfield. In 1909 he was transferred to the Alberta Conference. His first cir- cuit was Crossfield, and tater Norwood church, Edmonton. At present Rev. Mr. Smith is at St. Paul's Calgary, where he is entering on his fifth year. It is but simple truth to say that the new pre- sident is beloved both by his own peo- ple and the Conference at large, lie has just completed a splendid year oflistir achievement, both spiritual ,and finan- cial and starts on his•presidentlal year French 1; T. NEAL President of Toronto Conference The Rev. T. W. Neal was born at Gloucestershire, England, where his father was a farm laborer. He spent, practically all his life until coating 10 Canada on one farm receiving twelve • shillings per week. His mother died. in her thirty-sixth year, 'It was 'neces- sary for him to begin to earn his bread when eight years of age. In the 'elgtht- les his father sold the little house which he had inherited, and with the proceeds bought tickets for Canada. The family settled first in the village of Londes- boro, Huron Gouty, Mr. Neal's first years itt Canada were spent on the farm. Then for seven years he worked in the blacksmith's shop—' - four in the country and three in Toron- to, While thus engaged he studiecT nights for entrance to high school. Alberta.
