Next Tuesday.
The U. F, 0. Clubs of Seaforth and
Clinton will hold their annuah picnic In
Mr. Fred. Tyndall's grove, Tuckersinith
Township,' on. the London Road, about
• 2 miles south of Clinton, on Tuesday
afternoon of next week. r m.
Last year the Clubs held a very suc-
cessful picnic and the managing nom
nritttee are making bigger plans than
ever to make this ye'ar's better than
ever,
Among the list of speakers, who are
expected to be present are:—Hong Mr.
Biggs, Minister of Public Works of
Ontario; Mr. Andrew ,Hicks, M.P.P„• of
South Huron and Whip of the U.F.O.
party; Mr.. A. A. Powers, President of
the 'Co -Operative Co. A lady speaker
of the 11,P.W,O, will,also be present and
deliver an address. Speaking willcom-
mence at 2 o'clock sharp.
Following the addresses a program of
sports will be run off. Everybody is
invited and the password is a "full
basket,”

George Frederick Ernest Albert King
of Great Britain, and Emperor of the
British Empire, celebrates his 5 5th
birthday to -day, The King was born at
Marlborough House London, and is the
second son of the late King Edward
He became heir apparent to the
throne on the death of his brother, th
Duke of Iarence and Avondale, who
died of January 14, 1892. He began his
career as a cadet of the Royal navy on
the training ship Britannia, when twelve
years' of age. in 877 he andthii brother
started upon a two years cruise round
the world an experience which was
renewed, a quarter of a Cen-
tury later in ,1901 when as the Duke
of. Cornwall and York he made a tour
to .the colonies and oversea possessions
of Britain on board the Ophir. He was
promoted to Lieutenant in 1885 and in
1891 was made commander. God Save

Rally and Dr.'Grant is Invited
The Executive of the Huron 'County
Temperance Alliance, in session here
Monday, •decydedto issue a call for a
County Temperance Convention in
Seaforth on June 23. The convention
will be held in the afternoon, while a
public meeting 11 e evening and Dr.
Andrew S. Grant, head of the -Ontario
Referendum Committee, is likely to be
chief speaker. - •
The purpose of the convention will
be to organize for the Referendum, This
work has already been well started .and
township .organizations are busy this
week. Officers of the temperance as-
sociation state that their work has in-
creased greatly since the first of Janu-
ary, in•that frequent illegal shipments
' are r nrted and this calls, for some
on the part of the executive.

Mrs, 'Chas, Macdonnell and daughter
and Miss H. Sutherland, of Hensall,
were in town for a short time on

Mrs, Roberton, of the Bayfield Line
was operated on at the Clinton Hos-
pital this week and is doing as well as
can be expected.
Rev. S. Anderson, Chairman of the
Goderich District, is attending tine ses-
sions of the London Conference at.
