An Old Resident Passes Away.
One of Clinton's oldest residents died
0r, Friday last in the person of Mrs.
Christina Duncanson, who had been a
citizen for about fifty years. She was
horn in the 'County of York in the year
1834. She married Archibald Duncan-
son, a native of Scotland, and resided
at the Pillage of Dutton until his death
which occurred about fifty yearsago,
when she cane to Clinton and ,rade
her home for a time with her brother,
the late Alexander McMurchie, Some
thirty years ago she built her home
where she resided until the time of her
death. The late Mrs. Duncanson was a
women of remarkably high intelligence
infodmdtipn and iifroad , .,sympathies.
Though not obstrusive, she was always
interested in the affairs of those about
her and she always kept herself closely
in touch with public affairs so that her
conversation was greatly enjoyed by her
friends of whom she had many both
amongst the older residents and the
younger people as well. Throughout her
lifetime she was a staunch supporter
of tete Presbyterian church and for
many years was prominently connected
with Sunday School work and the ac-
tivities of the Wontcns Foreign Mission
cry Society in which she took a special
interest. Several half-brothers and half-
sisters survive her and she had many
nephews and nieces of whom two only
Mr. James McMurchie and Mrs, Will-
iam Brydone reside in Clinton. The fun
oral was held on Monday and tine ser-
vice was conducted by Rev, J. E. Hogg
pastor of the, deceased and the pall-
bearers were —J. Scott, G. D. McTag-
gart W. D. Fair and Thos Cottle. Among
those from a distance were Mr. John
Morrow, Toronto a nephew; Mr. Mc -

Ontario Hydro Commissioners
Lost $54,408 in Their Agri.
cultural Operations.
Either the Hydro Commissioners are
poor farmers, or the so-called pessl-
mnist who says farming doesn't pay is
right.
In buying land for the Chippewa
power canal the Commission bought
whole farms, intending to resehl the
parts not required. To keep the pricb
up they continued to farm this land.
The auditor's report shows that there
is a deficit of $53,408 on these farm-
ing operations.
The auditor declares that the fann-
ing operations exceeded those neces-
sary for the work and weren't requir-
ed to keep the lands favorable for sale.
He also doubts the authority to con,
duct them. There is no detail account
as to,the expenditures or products of
the Hydro canal farms.
