GODERICH
The third anniversary of Vimy Ridge
was celebrated here by a general can-
vass of the town for funds for the sold
iers' memorial, The work was in the
hands of the memorial committee, and
' when full returns are in it is expected
the total raised by the canvass will be
in the neighborhood of $2,000. As$3,
000 hds already been subscribed there
Is a total of $5,000 to be used towards
the memorial which will probably take
the form of a monument.
A party of C. P, R. officials paid an
informal visit to this terminal in the
course of an annual tour of inspection.
These include Mr. Tine, superintend-
ent of motive power; Mr, MacKenzie,
of the track maintenance department;
District Superintendent McKillop, and
Assistant Superintendent Savage.

was held from the home of her dau-
ghter, Airs. Fred Johnston on Tuesday
afternoon. . The deceased was eighty-
eight years of age.

A largely signed petition, asking the
Dominion Government to proceed with
the erection of a new postoMce in Brus-
sels, has been forwarded to Ottawa. A
site Was purciiased several years ago and
money voted for the post office, but not
expended.
Brussels flax mill has closed down
for the present and the balance of the
stock of flax will be hauled to Blyth,
where it will be scutched, The Brus-
sels plant is not supplied with a drier,
which is ne'eessary at this season of the
year. The rumor that Brussels mill
was being permanently closed down is
without any foundation and a larger
acreage than ever is being put in this
season the seed having already arrived

After considerable discussion, Mr. Geo.
Mair received the appointment, salary
5100 per month for nine months, 2nd

cost of wages,and material necessary to
buy a phone and have it installed with
that of some years ago the Board agreed
to the following. A new phone in-
