GOOD YEAR FOR
PILL CO441SSON
Public Utilities Commission Had a
Specessful Year — Many
Users o Water and
Hydro,
The Minton Hydro -Eleatic Depart-
ment shows a surplus of $3,132.81, for
the year 1919, and the Auditor in mak-
ing his report compliment:4 the mona-
gement on this splendid showing,
Besides paying 'all the debentures
and interest charges as they came due,
there has been set aside during the
years of Municipal ownership $5474,76
for sinking fund reserve, and $.5270,00
for depreciation.
There are now 270 domestic users
of electricity in the town and 135 conl-
mercial and power 'users. •
While there have been quite a num-
ber of new customers secured for
huose lighting during the last year, it
is expected that the number will be
largely increased during the coming
year.
Waterworks Department
The report of the Clinton Water-
works department as presented to the
Council, is the most favorable since
the installation of the system ten years
ago.
From over, six hundred services in-
stalled the revenue has increased to
$4,077.22, which with the hydrant
rental paid by the town for fire pro-
tection brings the total receipts up to
$6,384,99.
The cost of running the plant ;or the
year was $1,892.01, and leaves a bal-
ance more than sufficient to pay the
sinking fund and interest.
There is no better water supplied
any where than by the Clinton -Water-
works systein, and the medical health
officer attributes our splendid record
in the matter of contagious diseases to
the fact that our people are drinking
pure Iv`ater frony artesian wells in-
stead of from service wells as former-
ly.

The Liberty League will probably
withdraw its 520,900 wager against
Raney.
—0 --
The election of Mr. Doherty by ite‘
clernation Is not a personal triumph for
the Minister of Agriculture. It is an
iptimation that the electors of the Pro-
vince at lirrge, and of East Kent in parti-
cular, want the Government to buckle
down to work.
The 01d Guard seems to be cterer-
mined -to make trouble for lion. Mr,
Raney, who thrives on that kind of diet,'
—0—
If Mr. Drury has not received a man-
date to finish his work he has at least
been given a chance to begin IL
The Vote in Halton yesterday is likely
to pro-ve a bit of an "eye-opener" for
the Liberty League's $20,000 candidate
In East Wellington,
---0—
The politicians may have other views
but the electors have evidently made up
their 111)11CIS to give the Drury Govern-
ment a fair chance.
—0—
The stormy weather and had roads
in Halton yesterday seem to have af-
fected only the Stephenson end of the
farmers' vote.
--0—
The prospect of bpposition for M.
Raney will not be so bright after the
Liberty League studies the Halton fig-
ures.
—0—
Premier Drury says that the cities of
Ontario must not have 'their point of
view. to dominate too -much. Judging
by the relative rural representation in
the Legislature, there a very careful
attempt, 'politically, to make sure they
do not.
It is fairly safe to say that the Liberty
League: now that its purpose has been
disclosed, will not get the 520,000 it
wants, and that Mr. Raney will get his'
seat.
it would be prying into the Attorney -
General's private affairs to ask whether
Bradstreets rates him higher (him the
Liberty League.
There will be na Haltin' in Drury's
race, He' has a Ford to help him.
If Premier Drury wishes to make it
dead certain that he will be, returned
unoppOsed in Halton he should bribe
Hartley Dewart to go into (hat con-
stituency and endeavor to stir uti op-
position to him,
According to Mr. Drury the sole
right of a minority is to obey the will
of a major)ty. He might be reminded
that the U. 0. 0. is a minority.
For a dry man Raney will raise a lot
of dust in 'Well—ington.
Premier.Dritry will admit that he can-
not cut the cost of milk and butter, but
believes something can be done with
the price of overalli, straw hats, and
agricultural machinery.
The wag who is picking hypothetical
seats for the Attorney -General haS fail-
edas yet to name Kathy River,
