Owing to unavoidable circumstances
the Kelly Circle was unable to hold
their July meeting on the regular clay
so accepted, the kind invitation of the
Senior -Society to join with them in
a union meeting. It was made, all the
more interesting in that Mrs. (Rev.)
McLean of Egmonclville addressed the
meeting and gave a splendid talk.
This was Mrs. McLean's first visit to
the Brucefield societies but all will be
glad to have her back again. At the
close of the meeting the Kelly mem-
bers withdrew to the session room
and' held a short business meeting
fifteen members being present. At
the August meeting on Aug. 5th a
special collection will be taken to de-
fray expenses for material bought for
Ethelbret hospital. The members ap-
pointed to take the July meeting Miss
Mary Gilmour and Miss Kate Mc-
Gregor, will have charge of the Au-
gust meeting.

The Methodists, Presbyterians and
Anglicans intend having a union pic-
nic at Bayfield on Friday of next
week July 30th, which will be''Var-
na's civic holiday.

that crops . are looking fine.
Dr. James Campbell of St. Louis
and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Ainslie of
Munroe, Mich„ were callers at the
home of Mr, James Elsley last week.
Mrs. J. W. Tamblyn has returned
home after spending a week with her
friend, Miss Bessie Porter, Clinton.
She also took in the Chautauqua,
which was on there last week.
A lawn social, under the auspices
of the Methodist choir, will be held
on Mr. J. Stanley Carter's faun on
Friday evening. Brunswick Trio of
London will furnish music. Tea from
six to eight, Refreshment booth on
the grounds. All the ladies of the
congregation are asked to please
bring baskets.

The garden party held in the manse
grounds on Monday evening was
quite successful, although the even-
ing was cool, The Kiltie Band of
Clinton discoursed sweet music which
delighted those present. The grounds
were lighted by "Delco" lights which
gave them . e gay appearance. The
affair was under the auspices,of the
Mission band.
