,On Friday 'evening last the Pa-
triotic Society of Summerhill called
.at- the home of the Messrs. Cant,
formerly that of Chas. Tyner, to bid
the newcomers welcome to the com-
munity. Shortly often their arrival
Mrs. Synder read an address and a
shower of very useful articles was
presented to the host' and hostess.
The thing was a complete surprise,
but Mr. and Mrs. Caut rose to the
occasion and entertained their friends
in a very pleasing' manner. Itirs.
Cant has been but a very short time
in this country but thinks she 'is
going to like it very much. The
Messrs. Caut both served in the re-
cent war, one .brother served also in'
the Boer war. All 'hre enthusiastic
over the prospect Canada offers then.
Following is the adress:
"Messrs.- and Mrs. Cant—`Dear
friends and neighbors: We have
taken this privilege of gathering to-
night in this newly purchased home,
to bid you welcome to our midst.
You calve to tis as strangers -but
"we want to extend to, you our.heart-
iest fr:cndship and sympathy, and
hope that you may be able to re-
ciprocate in a 'hearty response. The
Patriotic •Society of S:tmmerhlll
especially wish to extend to you
their hand of welcome, and offer you
'a few gifts, though small in. them-
selves yet very useful, and hope that
