Lamp Operating on Pivots are Barred.
In a new copy of the Motor Ve-
hicles Act receiver by Chief of Police
Fitzsimons an important change is
noted in one of the amendments, relat-
ing to searchlights. Before, the Act
read that any light operating on a
pivot was prohibited, This allowed
Motorists to ; curry these janips as
trouble lights. The new amendment
reads "any lamp operating on a pivot."
which prohibits the carrying of the
lamp at all, whether lit and used as a
searchlight or kept dark until needed,
tis trouble lamps.

Effectively Teaching Patriotism.
.A rather striking illustration of
what a civilizing as well as an educa-
ting force the Sunday Schools of Can-
ada are, is to be given on Sunday, Sept.
25th, this year, when over eighty per
cent of the Sunday Schools in 'Canada,
including the Baptist, Congregational,
Methodist and Presbyterian denomina-
tions, will unite in celebrating Rally
Day. It appears probable that at least
1,000,000 members and adherents of
Canadian Sunday Schools will attend
the special servict to be held that day.
A feature of this as provided for in a
specially printed program which has al-
ready been circulated in enormous
guautities throughout all the .Canadian
Schools of these denominations, will be
teaching a real patriotism and the place
of the Sunday Schools in making our
Dominion a better country. Arrange -
talents for this big day have been made,
by the way, by a joint committee made
up of representatives from the Sunday
School Board of these various denomina
tions and this in itself is rather . an
interesting illustration • of effective
methods of church union which are in
operation these days.
