Mr, William Jewell, on the Benmiller
road, about 4A miles from Goderieh,
had the misfortiune Wednesday morn-
ing about 9 o'clock to have his fine
brick residence burned to the ground.
The fire was first noticed in the rear
rind presumably was caused from a
chimney spark, A general Marin was
raised on the phone, but despite every
effort made by the ninny neighbors who
responded nothing could be done be-
yond removing all the furniture, The

GODERICH ' BRUCI FIELD,
This vicinity was visited by frost on
Saturday night, but is believed that it
was not severe enough to do any dam-
age. Further inland, however, it is
thought to have suffered severely
The first anniversary of the conse-
cration of St. George's church was
celebrated Sunday. The special speak-
er for the services which were well at-
tended, was Rev. Canon Cluff, of Strat-
ford, who delivered eloquent and forci-
ble addresses.
EXETER
The ,death occurred Monday even-
ing of Mi s Marjory Seldon, daughterof
Mr. and Mri. R. G. Seldon, at the
fanifiy residence. Miss Seldon was
one of the most popular girls in Exeter
and had up to the time of her illness
occupied the position as teller in the
local branch of the Molsns Bank, Dur-
ing the war she took an active part in
the local Soldiers' Aid Society and her
early death at the age of 21 is regret-
ted by a host of friends. She is survived
by her father and mother, one sister,
Mrs. Newman, of Kingston, and two
brothers, Barry and Wallace, at home.
Miss Seldon was an active worker in the
Cavan Presbyterian church and a Sun-
day school teacher. The immediate
cause of her death was meningitis.

by ,Mrs, Kennedy. A goodly number
of the inelnbers were present to an-
swer to the roll call.
The Excelsior Young Men's Class of
Ontario St, S. S. have organized as a
Taxis Square to take up the C. S. E. T.
programme. Mr. A. J. McMurray is
the Mentor of the group. Last Thurs-
day evening an initiation ceremony was
put on by the mentor assisted by A. K.
Leonard. Needless to say the boys all
had a most enjoyable time.
On Sunday morning last the W. M.
S. of Ontario St. church took advan-
tage of the pastor's absence at Con-
ference to present their work to the
general congregation, (rhe speaker
was Mrs. (Rev.) 'Cuyler, of St. Helen's
who delighted her audience with her
exposition of Acts 26-19: "Where-
upon 0 King Agrippa 1 was not dis-
obedient unto the heavenly vision." A
woman's choir provided the music and
the service throughout was 'conducted
bythe members of the 'W. M. S.. in
the afternoon they had charge of the
service at. Turner's also.

faithful women have accomplished a
great deal of work in the extension
