As a consequence it is 'entered that the former minister is willing (on certain conditions), to bury the hatchet and join fortes with the.gov- ernment in an attempt to win the next election. Having direct relation to these ne- gotiations a caucus of Ontario mem- bers was held yesterday, At that caucus old Conservatives had a good deal to say, and spoke their minds with frankness, and complete dis- regard for the danger of hurting feelings. 'They also (on certain con- ditions) pledged themselves to forget past differences and undertook to enter the coming fight with their coats off. Back to the Old Name - • eAmong these there is a strong body of opinion in favor of going back to the old name of "Liberal Conserva- tive party." It is further contended that the sooner union is forgotten the better, and that former Liberal - Unionist supporters of the govern- ment might just as well renounce their pest leanings. Conservative members point to the fact that the only organization left in the country to which the govern'-: ment can look is the old Conserva- tive organization, or the remnants thereof, and that in the [natter of nomiltations only those approved .by that organization can hope to put up for election; it is intimated that the lukewarm elements need not apply. To Reorganise Cabinet. Reorganization of the cabinet at an early date Is one of the conditions for the bringing about of reconcilia- tion. In the first place it is realiz- ed that the present cabinet is woe- fully weak, and that Premier Meigllen cannot long .continue to bear the whole burden of adminis- tration in the house and out of it. Sir George Foster is slated for Lon- don. lion. J: D. Reid, for the Senate, Sir Edward Kemp is not expected to run again, General Newburn, whose return to the cabinet was predicted some time ago, is to go to the bench, and at least two straight Conserva- tives are to be taken into the cab- inet 000111 Ontario. Among names mentioned in the latter connection are those of 'Col. Currie, M. P., for North Simcoe, who is now a resident of Toronto, and who might run in the place of Sir Edward Kemp; and Dr, Edwards, of Frontenac, a strong Orangeman, Try to Get Pithlado. It it desired ftriheithat t over- turns be made to Isaac Pitblado, K. C., of Winnipeg, with a view to securing 1315 services in the cabinet, Mr. "Pitblado has always been a Lib- eral, but- since 1917 has supported the administration, No changes are suggested for the Maritime provinces. 111 Quebec much depends upon the result in Yamaska; if A. A .Mnndou, the recognized gov- ernment candidate, wins he may con- ceivably he taken into the cabinet. If not, then the governnmentwill give up its efforts in that province for the present.,' Bennett or Tweedie A strong effort is being made to bring T. M. Tweedie, of Calgary, into the cabinet; Mr. Tweedie is a popu- lar figure with tete government mem- bers. Another Alberta name- men - toned is that of R. B, Bennett, K, 0., a former member of the House.. While tate is a fairly strong body of opinion in favor of art early gen- eral election, the majority ' of the government supporters are said to favor delay in the hope' that good times will have returned to the do- minion by next year, WHEN BABY IS ILL When the baby Isall; when. he cries a great deal and no aunoento0 attent- ion or petting snakes hint happy, Baby's own Tablets should be given hint with- out delay. Late Biight and Rot is the most destructive disease or potatoes in Ontario. In wet evas01(0 it frequently destroys a very largo proportion of the crop and causes a loss of many thousand$ of dollars to the farmers of the province. This Is to a large extent a needless loss, for Late Blight and Rot. can be prevented by timely, thorough and intelligent spraying with Bordeaux mixture. This has been proven by numerous field experiments both in this country and the United States. Spraying everw year is an insurance. Can you afford to neglect it? Directions for Spraying. - Spray with Bordeaux mixture, strength 4'to 6 pounds of copper sulphate (blue - stone) and 4 pounds of lime to 40 gallon's (Imperial) of water. Com- mence spraying with Bordeaux throughout the season. Forty to 100 gallons of the Bordeaux mixture will be required for each application, the amount to be used depending upon the size of the plants. Take special care to see that the spraying IS very thoroughly done if the weather is at all damp about the 15th of July, as Blight often begins at this time. Add a poison when necessary for Potato Beetles -arsenate of lead paste 31/2 pounds to each 40 gallons of the li- quid spray or Paris green 2 pounds to 40allons o1 g a mixture of 2 pounds of arsenate of lead paste and 1 pound of Paris green to 40 gal-- lons. !from three to seven applica- tions should be made, depending up- on the season; the wetter the wea- tber, the larger the number. Do not put off spraying because it looks like rain. If the spray is on the plants half an hour before the rain comes it will be dry and sufficient of it will stick to prevent infection, which takes place during or soon after rale. Spraying as described above should prevent not only Late Blight and Rot but also Early Blight and Potato'Beotles. For Late Blight and Rot only, It is not necessary to com- mence spraying until about the 10th of July, but in Ontario it is usually advisable to spray for all throe. 'A. hand pump barrel sprayer can he ttsed for entail 'lets of potatoes. Most men who grow any consider- able acreage ot'• potatoes consider that a power' potato sprayer is a good investtuenL The best results from spraying are obtatned with ma- chines fitted with T -joint attachments so as to insure covering both sur- faces or the leaves at each spraying: Efficient spraying of potatoes depends: 1. Upon the use of the (3101)01' fungicide. Bordeaux rnixture has so far proved to be the only satisfactory spray mixture for potato diseases. 2. Upon timely and repeated spraying. Spraying should be com- menced when the plants are from six to eight inches high, and repeated at intervals of from a week to ton days throughout the growing season. From three to seven applications will be required, tlae number depending upon the weather, the wetter the weather the more frequent the spraying. 8, Upen the liberal use or Bor- deaux mixture. Thorough spraying n s t 6 U Y g can only be donee when sufficient of the spray mixture is used. From 50 to 160 gallons of Bordeaux mixture should be used per acre at each ap- plication.
