freight boat, sailing from Fort William
to Buffalo and other lake ports.
Rev. N. D. McIntosh will preach it
sermon on Sunday evening for the Odd
Fellows. -
WINGHAM
For days here rain has been falling
more or less, especially at night, heavy
downpours and thunderstorms. Seed-
ing, which Inas started some time ago,
has all been suspended. In fact, the
low lands are flooded. The Maitland
River is rising rapidly and overflowing
its banks in some places, .
Mrs. W. D. Pringle, who lives on
Leopold street, died Friday. She had
been ill for some time. She was a
lady highly respected and beloved .by
all who knew her, and was a member
of the Baptist Church here. The de-
ceased is survived by her husband and
a daughter.,
There are many sick at the present
time here, among ',,them being Mrs.
Fisher, wife of the late ex -Postmaster
Peter Fisher, also Councillor Mitchell,
who is still in bed, where he iras been
for some weeks,
J. S. Dobie, of tine Wingham Garage,
appeared before Pollee Magistrate Reid
on a charge of violating the Motor Veh-
icles Act. Dobie and Thomas McLean,
of Winghan, it is said, were returning
one night recently from meeting ' in
Goderich and when near Belgrave ran
into a Car belonging to Dan Ferguson,
doing considerable damage. Dobie was.
fined $25 and costs and, in addition, he
paid a bill of about $50 for repairs to
the injured car.

The report of Engineer Jones on the
Sturdy Municipal Drain was read, con-
sidered and adopted, and Clerk' in-
structed to notify the Clerk of East
Wawanosif that Messrs. John Wison
and James D. Howatt demand an audit
by the County Judge of Engineer
Jones time and expenses in making
his award on this drain. The follow-
ing were appointed as Pound -keepers:.
I—William Rose, Benjamin Riley, John
Collinson, John E. Taylor, Frank Long-
man, George Ffaunilton, John Cart-
wright and Joseph Reynolds. The
following were appointed Fence View-
ers:—John Fowler, M. McDerrnid, L.

Brussels:—As David Walker was
starting W. H. Maunders' car last Mon-
day the crank flew back striking hits
a hard blow On the right hand. No
bones were broken fortunately but a
bad bruise was inflicted which he" 'til
remember for some time.
Colborne Township:—Mr, Thomas
Girders has bought one hundred acres
of the Kirkpatrick place (better known
as the Kerr farm) on the Gth Concess-
ion. The purchase price was $4,600,
Mr. Girders gets immediate possession.
He already owned fifty acres adjoining
so now he has a fine property of 150'
acres, one of the best farms on the 6th
Concession.
Dashwood:—Mr. and Mrs. Herman
Zimmer, 'of Stratford; accompanied by
two relative children, had a narrow es-
cape with, their lives recently. They
were returning home, after a visit
with relatives in Dashwood, and
when about two miles east on the
Thames' Road, their car turned ti-
tle. Mrs. Zimmer, who was in the
front seat was thrown through the
windshield, sustaining a cut on the lip
and a badly bruised hip and leg, while
Mr, Zimmer was pinned underneath
the car.
Hassall•—The town council has
purchased three acres of land, West of
the park, for sites to induce manufac-

Gorrie:—Mrs, M. Hooey passed a-
way at the home of her daughter, Mrs.
Janes Shers, on Sunday last, after it
lingering illness. The funeral service
was held on Tuesday afternoon and
the remains were taken to Mildmay
for interment.
Exeter:—Mr, John Stire, of Exeter
North, last week had the misfortune to
cut his foot with an axe while splitt-
ing kindling. It required several
stitches to close the wound.
Benmiller:—Complete arrangements
have been shade to hold. the jubilee
Anniversaryof the Benmiiler Metho-
dist'Church on Sunday, May 22nd, to
be followed with a monster tea -meet-
ing and concert on Tuesday evening,
May 24th,
Exeter:—Mil's Lulu Hedden, daugh-
ter of Mrs, Catharine iledden, Huron
Street, was quietly married in Regina,
Saskatchewan, on' April 2nd to Mr,
Clifford Bridal of Crystal City,. Man.
The young couple wilt make their fut-
ure home at Coronation, Alberta. The
bride is well .and favorably known here.

Methodist church, Montreal, Quebec, Shorts
on Monday, April 4th, when Vera M. Bran
Swartz, B. A., daughter of H. C. and
Mrs. Swartz, of Westinount, was united
in marriage to G. R. Weller, of Brus-
sels, Ontario.

James Mc Callum, formerly of Ethel,
has received a substantial cheque from
the Metropolitan Life Insurance Com-
pany, he being the leading agent for
the Owen Sound district. Mac, is
spending the week end as a guest of
Superintendant F. 13. Brown, at the
King Edward Hotel, Toronto.
. ,Fordwich:—George Topham, New-
bridge, is nursing 'a sore right hand as
the result of having 2 fingers nearly
severed while assisting at wood cutting
with a circular saw.
Brussels:—F, ti. Gilroy, the genial
and. capable Manager of Brussels
Branch of the Bank of Nova Scotia,
had been appointed to Petrolia Branch.
Mr. Gilroy came to town in 1903as
teller on the opening of the Branch,
associated with A. E. OMeilish, the Man-
ager, and spent 3 years here then was
removed to Kingston branch and hater
to head office. He returned to Brus-
sels as Manager 13 years ago which
was'a pleasure to both the public and
himself.
Wingham:—The town 501111511 held
a special meeting on Monday evening
and passed a couple of debenture by-
laws, 0.ie for the suns of $7,400 to
pay for watermains laid on Victoria,
Leopold, William and Centre streets
also services put in since 1st of Jan-
uary, 1910. The other bylaw was for
the borrowing of $8,400 by the issue
of debentures to pay for sewers.
Hensall Our bowlers are making
improvements to their green and are
enlarging the space for bowling.
Wingham:—Mr, and Mrs. Richard
Porter, Minnie Street, were married
April 14th, 1855—sixty-three years
ago—in Goderich. Mrs, Porter's maid-
en name was Margarite McKee. The
young couple went straight to Wing-
ham after the ceremony and have lived
there continuously ever since. They
had eleven children, nine of whom sur-
vive,
Kippen:—Mr. and Mrs, R. Brownlee
and family purpose leaving next week
for their new home In Oregon. The
fruit farm in which Mr. Brownlee has
purchased an interest in that State,
consists of some .8,000 trees, which
means that there will be work for many
hands.
Hensall:—Mr, T. J. Berry has sold
the noted Clydesdale stallion, King
Thomas, to Mr. Isaac Eby, of Hanover,
Mr. Berry has kept him fdr 13 seasons.
Seafortht—Word has been received
of an automobile accident which oc-
curred in Sea'itle, Washington, in which
Mr, Lawrence Murphy, formerly' of
Seaforth, met his death. His wife,
formerly Miss Liza Carlin, was see
iousiy injured, while This daughter, Flor-
ence, ,was thrown from the car but
escaped tvit9h slight injuries,
