of the Lady Bowlers of Clinton was

"shriven" on that day in order to

proper spirit. In European coun-

Lent, it is usually a day of feasting
and merry -making, masquerades
and dancing as a last outburst of
feeling before the penitential sea-
son, in France it received the name
Mardi Gras (fat Tuesday)' Indicating

relict of the late James Smith passed a-
