couple of months, leaves tomorrow
for Wiarton.
Mrs. Wesley Lawrence and children
have returned to their home in
Sarnia after, having spent some
weeks with the lady's mother, Mrs
T. Leppington,

ing a couple of weeks visiting in
London, St,. Themes and Port
Stanley. Mr. Derry also spent a
few days with relatives in London.
Mrs. N. A. Phoenix and children re-
turned on Friday to their home in
Hamilton after a visit at the home
of the forn;,er's mother and sisters,
Mrs, R. J. Muff and the Misses
Cluff.
Mrs. G. A. McKee of Edmonton, Al-
berta, and Mrs. Hidings and daugh-
ters Mise Agnes, of Boston, and

Mrs. D., A. Bell was called to Allen-
, dale by phone on Saturday owing
to the illness of her little grand-

Mair. Later she. was notified of
his death, which occurred about

family leave tomorrow`for Montreal
and on Saturday sail for England.

Our villagers were shocked to' hear
of the sudden death in Calgary, Alta„
on Thursday, of last week, of an old
ilolntoaville • boy, Mr. Will Elford,
brother of Prof, 1.1% C. Elford of the
Dominion Poultry Dept., Ottawa and
Mrs, (Rev.) A. IC, Bir* of Toron-
to. .
Shortly after • starting his
work in the morning he was taken
very ill when he wee, rushed to the
hospital, but before reaching it: he
passed away. Dbath was caused by
enlargement of -the heart, His wife
predeceased him about two years ago,
leaving three boys, who now mourn
the loss of a loving father, Tlie,oldest
son is about twenty years of age,
The whole community extend their
deepest sympathy to the sorrowing
family so suddenly bereft.
Mrs. Leech of Goclerich has been
visiting her sister, Miss D. A.
Holmes, during the past week,
Rev, A. Sinelair of Centralia, a
former pastor, took the morning ser-
vice in the Methodist churchon Sun-
day last in connection with the Rally
Day program and preached one of his
old time inspiring and spiritual ser-
mons and the peepla were delighted
to see and hear him again. Ile is
always welcome in Holmesville.
He took charge of the Anniversary
services •afternoon and evening at
Ebenezer.
Threshing and silo filling are being
pretty well completed around here
and on account of there being very
little fruit farmers should get a .los
of fall` ploughing clone this season in
preparation for an increased produc-
tion next year.
We hear the big steam shovel • is
expected to reach Holmes' Hill very

ton, visited Miss Holmes on Tuesday.

on Sunday last. There was a chil-
dren's choir and the church was nice-

Mr. Will McIntosh, who visited at

has returned to Loring.

Mrs. (Rev) McIntosh, who has
been quite 'ill for, some time, is, we
are glad to say, getting much better..i

Miss Mary' Broadfoot spent the
week -end with Hensall friends.
Next Sunday will be young peo-
ple's day in Brucefield church. Spec-
ial music will be provided by the
younger people and a special ' ser-
mon, the service to be in •the even-
ing.
Mr, Herbert, who has been supply-
ing at the station, has gone to Lan-
don and Mr. Wilson has taken his
place.
Mr. Cecil Simpon has improved the
appearance of his house by having
it nicely painted.
Mrs. H. Jackson has gone to Lon-
don for the winter.
Mrs. Wheeler was the guest of
her sister, Mrs. Edmonds of Sen -
forth, for a few days last week.
Mrs. R. McLeod of Walton was
calling on old friends here on Sun-
day.
Anniversary sevrices will be held
in Union church on Sunday, Oct.
24th, when Rev. Finlay Matheson
of Stratford will be the preacher, On

Hullett Township
John McMillan, a young faster of
Hullett township, died at his home on
Saturday last after about a week's
illness with bloodpoisoning. Mr. Mc-
Millan was in his thirtieth year and
is survived by his young wife, who
was formerly Miss Nellie McDowell
of McKillop, and one little son. He
was the eldest son of Mr. Thos. Mc-
Millan, who was recently chosen as
Liberal candidate in South Huron in
the coming federal election. His
parents, one sister and one brother
survive. The funeral took place to
Maitland Bank - cemetery, Seaforth,
on Monday afternoon. The I. 0. 0.
F., Seaforth, of which he was a mem-
ber, took part in the funeral services.

anniversary services on Sunday next
at eleven in the morning and seven
in the evening. The Rev. W. G. H.
McAllistr, pastor of Main street-

treetchurch, Exeter, will be in charge at
both services.
On Sunday, Oct. lath Varna Metho-
dist church will have anniversary ser-
vices, the Rev. R. Fulton Irwin of
Lueknow being the preacher on this
occasion. On the Monday evening
following Mr. Irwin will give his lee-
turo on "Ireland and the Irish Tur-
moil; Its Cause and Cure.".

Mr. Geo. McKay, who has been in
failing health for the past year,
passed quietly away on Friday even-
ing of last week, The funeral took
place on Tuesday, a most impressive
service being held in the church. Rev.
Mr Luttdy, his pastor paid high trib-
ute to the life of the deceased; both
as an elder in the church and as a
citizen. • It was his "neat and drink
to do the will of his Heavenly Fath -
