J Passing ot.W.IPickard ofGoderich Twp. On Monday, September 19th Will Pickard passed to -the Beyond. The manner of his passing was a• glor- ious.tr'iumpli and reward for a life, very.. rare upon this earth, leaving to :his friends and relatives. .a fragrant memory, never to be forgotten. Dur- ing 'his illness, which lasted over'', a year, -his simile and confidence triumphed over .the pains. of the body and in the countless visits from his friends during that time 'his cheerfulness was often more pro 'pounced than that of his visitors. In his last conscious moments a few 'hours before his death he recognized -that the end was at hand and said good-bye to those -around him. • Mr. Pickard passed as he had lived, .a thorough, consistent Christion life, •cheerful, thoughtful of others, happy in the life here and sure of the be- yond, He long knew that his time 'there on earth was :limited and ar- ranged all affairs accordingly, even 'to the smallest details.° The funeral -was' held on Thursday, to Clinton, cemetery, the bearers being of his own. selection. These were, Will Yeo, EE ldred Yeo Lew Proctor, Fred Pick- ard of Holinesville, Will Jenkins of !Clinton and Will Logan of Varna... The service was, held at his late residence and the songs, and musical 'numbers were also selected by hint. These were, Duet, "He Knows," by Mrs, McCormick. and .Will Yeo; quartette, "Sometimes, Somewhere", by Will Yeo, Frecl Potter, and Glar ••once Potter, the three ' remaining members of the Holmesville quartette of which Will had been the leader; 'hymn, "Will Your Anchor Hold 7" 'Rev. Mr. Johnston, pastor, took• 'charge of the service and spoke. "Briefly of how he had learned to op- • predate the qualities of the departed. Rev. T. J. Snowdon of Clinton, a for-' -mer pastor, also spoke of his knowl- edge and appreciation as be knew kiln, One of his wishes was that A. J. Courtice, his cousin who 'had 'vis- ited him every Sunday dining his ill- ness, should speak. Though visibly ,afi'ected Mr. Courtice'. paid his tribute to the glorious life that had gone to 'its reward. The funeral was excep- tionally large and on all sides could be heard remarks, not So much • of sorrow for his going as rejoicing, -appreciation and comfort for the life 'he had lived. The floral tribintes were many and beautiful, During his 111 nese 'Mr. Pickard had always been 'surrounded by flowers and he ape ial- ly requested that those who had boon -so thoughtful of him during his 111; nese should be thanked for the many flowers with which his room had been 'kept bright and cheerful.
