Mr. Alvin Leonard has returned to
Toronto to resume . his work at the
University.
At the last meeting of the town-
ship council,,. the September meeting,
a new township clerk was appointed
to take the place left vacant by the
sudden death of Mr. A. Cantelon,
which occurred on, August 23rd. On
Monday, just before the meeting of
Council, Reeve Bert Lindsay dropped
dead at the,lionte of his brother -in
law, Mr. Oscar Tebbutt. The coun-
cil met for a few minutes, Councillor
'H. C. Cox being elected to the chair,
and a few minor matters were at-
tended to, when the council adjourn-
ed to meet this evening when ar-
rangements will be made for the bold-
ing of an election to -fill the vacancy.
Although but three months of the
year remains an election will have to
be held. •
Mr. H. J. Thornpson's new house is
nearing completion, the brick work
and most of the carpenter work be-
ing flnishe, .The plasterers are at
work this aveek. When finished it
will be a ntost"cornfortable and com
rnodious residence.
Mr. Jesse Gray has sold his fain
on the 9th to Mr. McCullough of Ben -
miller and will seek rest from the la-
borious work of the farm after a long
spell of it. Mr. Gray has been a
resident of Goderich'township for the
past twelve years, coming here from
Ashfield township, where he fanned
for thirty-three years, corning up
there as a young man front East Ox-
ford. Ile has been alonefor the
past five;y-earsand after forty-six
years of it he's entitled to a vest. Most
people will agree and will wishhim
and his good wife many years of
health to enjoy their well -yearned free-
dom from the exacting duties of the
farm, They will probably settle in
Clinton.
The Unity Club will meet at Mrs.
John Smith's Base line, on Tuosday,
October 9th.
