The marriage was solemnized at
the Methodist parsonage, Ifuntville,
on Saturday laet of Irene Witmilred,
second daughter of .Mr. and Mrs. W.
H. Cole of the 13ase line, and Mr. K.
'W. White of Whitehall, Ontavio. The
ceremony was performed by the Rev.
Mr. Godfrey and was witnessed by
.Miss White,. eister of the 'bridegroom,
and Mr. Marshall. Immediately af-
ter the ceremony the young couple
left for a little trip up, the lakes. They

On Monday afternoon Harold Lenet,

MILITARY TRAINING

HURON PIONEER PASSES
The Wingham Advance of last week
had the following notice o( the pas-
sing of a Huron pioneer. The late
Mr. Menzies was the uncle by mar-
aiage ef Mrs. J. D. Sterling and Miss
Susie Powell of Clinton, who attended
the funeral Iasi, Thursday:
"Mr. John Menzies, one of the high-
ly esteemed pioneers of this district
passed away at the hcane of his son-
in-law, Mr, Robt, McGee Victoria st.,
on Monday afternoon. The deceased
gentlenfan was bore in Perthshire,
Scotland, and was in his 85th year.
When seventeen years of age he came
to Canada and the family settled at
Varna, and fifty-five years ago 1VIr,
Menzies came ee Eaet Wawanosh and
took up the bush farm on the 10th
concession and here during Ids time
converted the bush farm into one a
the best homesteads in the toevnehip.
Mv. Menzies was' a. man possessed, of
many sterling qualitieseand was most
highly esteemed in the community in
which he had so long resided. He,
was faithful in his church dales and
bad for many years been art honoured

and held official position in the church
'as well as being deeply interested in,
the work of the Sabbath schgol. Ile
also took an interest in .the „publie
affairs of the' community .ancl 'bed
served in the municipal council. In
politics'he was a Liberal and -was an
active ;worker in the interests of his
Party, Mr. Menzies was a charter
member of 'Court of Belgrave of the
Canadian 'Order of Foreesters. He
had been an excellent type of citizen
and his paesing will be deeply re -
vetted. He is survived by one son
• and one daughter,. John A., Menzies,
residing an thaenenstead and (Eliza-
beth) Mee,: Rolla McGee, of Wingliern.

DEATH OF Je. BENNETT
John Bennett, a resident of Blyth
for the past forty-two years and a
native of East Wawanosh, died very
suddenly at his home on Friday ftaorn-
ing last.Mr. Bennett had been go-
ing about -his work as usual although
he had been taking medieine for his
heart for some little time and the doc-
tor bad advised him to go easy for a
while. He had, however, been haul.
