BEZZO The death of Lucy Ann Mathers, wife of Isaac Bezzo, occurred sudden- ly on .Sunday morning last at their residence, "Dingley Terrace. The de- ceased was ill for the short :period, of three days and her sudden demise was quite unlooked for. Mrs. Bezzo,. was better known as Captain „Lucy Mothers of the Salvation. Army as she served in the Army- successfully for years. She possessed a good voice -and would he particularly re- niemtberd beecause of her solo sing- ing, not only in the services in the Army balls but in the .open-air meet- ings. Mrs. Bezzo was born and brought up in Parkhill, where she first became connected with the Salvation Army at the earlyage of eighteen. She was a woman sof beautiful Christian spirit, abundantly exemplifying godly womanhood. Her path was .not al- ways a rosy one but her walk was triumphant. She will be ` sorely missed, not aloneby the relatives and friends, chief of whom are her hus- band and adopted daughter, her par - ants and arants:and brother, but by a large cir- cle of, Salvationists and adherents of the Army. • The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon from •the family 'residence and was conducted by Brigadier and Mrs. Moore of Toronto. She leaves to mourn besides her husband and daughter, three step-sons:'T.hoinas of Toronto and Walter- and William at home, 'and one step -daughter, Mrs.. McKown of. Clinton. - Her remains were tenderly and carefully laid to rest by six nephews who acted as pallbearers: Messrs. T. Mothers, C. Cooper; E. Mathers` and L., E. and I Allison. LITTLE LOCALS Ontario Street Sunday school pic- nic was held yesterday at Hayfield. Five of the Taylor brothers took part in the ,bowlingtournament on the green yesterday. GOOD CROPS IN WEST "Every mile of the west, between Winnipeg and Calgary is covered with the finest crop for the time" of year that has ever been seen grow- ing," writes Miss Cora E. Hind, ag- ricultural editor g-ricultural;editor of the Manitoba Free, Press, conceded to bei one of the best authorities on • crops in the west, "while the unbroken prairies and road- sides almost rival the shirts and neckties of the cowboys and 'girls for riot of color." This is ' the news we like to hear from;the west. We'd like that every farmer, not only be- tween Winnipeg and Calgary,' but all - through the farming provinces of the great Canadian West should have such a good crop that he'd be set, right upon his feet, be able to meet all his obligations of a financial nature and have a tidy sum its reserve as a nest egg. May the, brightest hopes of the western farmer be realized this season,, ERECTING THEIR CIIURCHS The Rev. S. E.'McKegney, former- ly rector of St: Pulls church, Clin- ton, is now at Ford;, Ont., having been appointed to that parish by' the Bish- op on his return from Oxford recent- ly. The peculiarity about this par- ish is that at Mr. McKegney's ap- pointment no church was organized, a fact which seemed to appeal particu- larly to his active and adventurous spirit, but the people were asking for a church and :a rector, Mr. MclKeg-' ney went, took a house and: settled his family, then went about' getting a church erected, The people to prove that they really wanted a church, nn dertook to build it and are doing so, holding a couple of 'bees" weekly for the purpose. . They have, amongst the people forming the parish, men with the practical knowledge of build- ing necessary, even to an -architect,: and they are doing all the work them- selves. They will also build a rec- tory adjoining, but will let the con- tract for that, so --as to have it up be- fore fall comes. Those who know Mr. Mc.IKegney will realize, how happy he is amidst all this activity and en- thusiasin. r LADIES BOWLII\G TOI'RNAMENI.' iLast 'Thursday evening the local. ladies' bowling 'club held a tourna- ment on .the green when eight rinks took part. DOHERTY PIANOS FIRST Just recently Doherty Piano, Lim- ited, shipped a carload of pianos 'to Vancouver, via Montreal, thence 'by boat -through the .Panama Canal. •This is the first opportunity Canadian piano manufacturers have (had of shipping this way, and Doherty Pianos, Limited, Clinton, were the first to send a . carload. Shipments 'have also lately been made to Auckland, Wellington Christ- church and Dunedin, New Zealand, and:to Adelaide, Australia, and a trial order has' just been received for play- er pianos for Glasgow, .Scotland, with considerable encouragement that this mtly lead to a large business in this line of piano. The factory is very busy and there are, we 'understand, openings for. more men on its staff. THINK OF SHUT-INS -, Now that summer is here and ev- ery other person, nearly,' has a car, there are lots of little kindly acts which might be done. In the first place, anyone who has a car might often call•for those who are not/ so fortunate, and take them for a little ride occasionally. Their, there are in Clinton^, as there are everywhere,. elderly people or people not •phys- ically robust, who would like to go to church -fine.Sundays 'but who find the walk there, too wearisome, but who would "appreciate it if somebody would call and take them.'. A little thoughtfulness on the part of those who drive cars would help ,brighten the lives of others. AMONG THE CHURCHES Goderich District : Summer School is in progress at Goderi'ch this week.
