ANY CHANGES ` DOG . IMPR'ISONEED IN I1:01,1,OW
TREE FOR A WEEK
Dr, Field, l'i;sepector of Seoliols
1300Huron, addressed a joint meet-
ing ,of the . 'School Board and ; the
Town Council on Friday evening in
the council chamber atthetown hall
Dr. Field outlined: the changes;,he
desired, which came as a surprise to
some 01 those present,' Ile claimed
the lighting was all wrong and that
all windows on the right hand side
of the rooms should, be closed up, and
new windows cut in the left wall.
The walls also should • be painted
a lighter color
, Tlie closets,' the Inspetcor said,
were deplorable, and neit+';ones should
be put in the basement; and the base-
merit enlarged ,as a playground for
the children.
The 'Inspector said a new dean)
heating system was 'also needed.
Flis plan appeared: to meet. 'with`
small 'favor' except in the matter' of
the closets.
Mr. McKellar said that last winter
was the first time any, complaint was
heard from the teachers regarding'.
the heating', and these complaints
were caused by the;'soft' coal . being
nest( Mr, McKellar. said that they;
bad a car of hard coal on' the way now
for next year, and heanticipated.no
trouble in heating.
Mayor Golding and Me'. W. Beattie'
both thought the furnaces there now
should heat the building as the rooms
were not large: • -
This -did .not please Dr.' Field, who
said he thought if all the changes.
were not made -now, they would, nevek
be made, ,
Asked regarding the cost, he said
he .did not know, but thought $14,000.
would do the work.
The Mayor said the town Was
carrying a heavy debt now for water
works, and recalled that in the school.
he attended• one heater kept 73,'chil-
dren 'com-fortable Later he said ;only.
one 'child of a group photograph from
that same school had undergone an
operation, and contrasted that with
present conditions.
The Inspector said he had been in
fifty schools in Iowa, ,. and had not
seen a child playing outdoors at any
of the schools.
Reeve Grieve thought;; the -children
should he in the open; 't16at doctors
put infants out in sleeping porches as
soon as they are born, and it seemed
strange that the' 'Inspector 'should
want to prevent school, children get-
ting 'fresh air. He said that the open
air was the best.
The general' feeling was that with
a fewchanges, the school would do
for a number' of years yet,• as ;the
building itselfis still in, good repair.
The Council and the Trustees ar-
ranged to meet at school on Tuesday
evening and see for themselves the
condition of the building and rooms
-Seaforth News.
On Thursday evening of last week,
Mr. Root. Ashton's boys ;thought they
heard a strange noise M the bush and
went to investigate; They found that
the sound carne from a hollow log
and on, chopping the log open liberated
a hound which was almost famished.
It had evidently followed some garde
into the log and was -unable to get out
again. Oa'inquii'y it was found that
the animal belonged to 31r. Geo,
Town, of Wroxeter. The dog had
been missing for a week, It was
rather thin but otherwise apparently
none the worse for its adventure.
