TIIE 12th IN SEAFOR'TH
South Huron Orangemen celebrat
el in Seaforth yesterday and a great
concourse of people gathered to take
part in or to witness the spectacle.
Over twenty lodges'took part in the
parade and Clinton had thehonour.
of 'being the largest one and, of
•oourse, the best looking, - ITad any
prizes been, given, One 'would certailiiy
have come this way,•
The speakers were: Mr. W. ,143,;
Doig of Port Huron, deputy Grand
1Vlaster :for the United States and 'a
Bast Grand Masten for Michigan;
Mr, Win, Lowe, past Provincial
Grand Master for Ontario; Rev:'W.
B. Moulton; Rev; Mr. McLean, Rev.
1t. • Fulton Irwin, Rev. Mr. Brown
and County Master Armitage. May-
or Goldie welcomed the visitors.
The day was somewhat: marred by
the heavy rain which, after holding
off all day, came on late in the after-
noon. A lacrosse match between
Seaforth and Clinton 'was to have
been played but was -pr'evented by.
the rain.
But in spite of „that drawback it
was a successful da4.,.
DROWNING.
:AT BAYFIELD ;•
Much regret was expressed in
town on Monday when the word
carne that a young son of M1 E.
F. • Merner of Bayfield, until a
couple ofmonths ago a resident or.
Clinton, had been: drowned in 'the
Lake at -Bayfield:
The two boys, Merton and Earl,
who could both swine, had gone clown
to bathe' and their,, father and mo-
ther, and Miss ,Izetta were to follow
bat before they got there Merton.
ran back "to say that Earl had been
knocked down by a bigwave and he
could not get hint, Help 'was
quickly at hand but it was alum
twenty minutes before the lad was
discovered, having been swept quite
a distance along the shore, His
father finally brought him out. Two
doctors were 'oe. the beach when he:.
was brought out and they used every
means for his restoration but it was•
of no ayail.
It is piabable that if Anyone com-
petent and a strong swimmer had
been ,-immediately at hand this
young life could have been saved.
'At- every summer resort along the;,
beach there should- be some simple'
but effective live -saving device.
Much sympathy is felt for Mr.'
and Mrs_ Mernec in the loss of their.
bright and winsome little` son.
