DEATH OF MRS.A. F.ORBES
After' several ' weeks' illness. the
death occurred on Monday afternoon
of Mrs. Arthur', Forbes, an esteem-
ed
ed 'resident.'of 'Clinton: Mrs. Forbes
death came as a ;shock' for, while
she -had been very ill with pii,eumon-
.ia for some weeks, she had taken a
turn for thebetter and it was hoped
she would pull through. Her heart
gave out :quite suddenly on Monday
afternoon, '',lioovever,. after she had
been conversing very. cheerfully with,
her daughter and remarking- how
much -better ` "she felt.

the Huron county council- meeting`
in `Goderich last week .the county'
councillors and' several,' ex -mem-
bers and the county officials were
entertained to, a lawn supper by,
County Cleric and Mrs:' Holman
About fifty enjoyed. the hospitality
of Mr. and Mrs. Holman and: a. -very
enjoyable and profitable - evening
was spent. '
Warden Trewartha presided at
one end of the,,table and Comity
Treasurer Lane at•the other end di-
viding' :the' program between- them.
'Besides` the present .council, ex-
wardens Elliott, Petty, Doig, Griff-
in and ex -councillors Young, and La-
porte and Inspector Tom, also 'Vies -
'armies Elliott, Trewartha and Con
molly were present and added much'.

Excellent addresses were, given by
the chairman in proposing and by
those responding to toasts to Cana-
da, education, .good roads, ex -war-
dens 'and councillors and the ladies

Mr. R. A. Roberton was appoint-
ed keeper of the Hilton, County
Home ,at Clinton. This position
was made •vacant by the resignation
of Jas -Reynolds, which was acoept-
ed with regret by the council.
The council; passed an assess-
inent of Uwo.mills to raise 335;002.-
80 for goodroads in the county, and
a "grant of $51,000, was given to
Witigham for street '.improvements
_•td'$1,500'to Clinton.
The ,$10,000 given to Goderich last
January. Was raised . to 320,000.
The special, committee . "recom-
mended that no action be taken in,
reference; to,_ithe request of the
Goderich Ad. Club deputation which
addressed the Council during its
sitting, urging the council to send
a memorial to the :Provincial Gov-
ernment eking that the road front
