church, Clinton, on Tuesday. There
was a good attendance of both min-.
isters and elders. The moderator,
the Rev. 2. Foote presided.
The resignation of the Rev. R. J.
Ross, B.A., of Auburn was consider-
ed. Mr., Ross goes to take up the
work of Principal Of the Indian
school at Round Lake, Sask.. Mr.
Ross has had a five-year succesful
pastorate at Auburn and he and
Mrs, Ross are held_ in high esteem,
as was testified by representatives
of the, congregation who addressed
the Presbytery, The Rev. Colin
Young, D.D.; of the Home Mission
Beard, prosecuted the cal/.

McLean, 'of Egniciffilville -was
also considered. Nee. McLean has

The Cadets, sixty streng, cittencled
service in' this nliurch on Sunday
evening.' The- wore 'their uniforms
and presented a very Smart .appear-
• ance. They were in charge .of Mr.
A. Sinclair and of cadet officers Fred
Elliott, Bert Sloman Mail Jack Baw-

for them, The pastor, the Rev. J.

fact that the prophet in his great
vision saw the weapons of War, not
destroyed, but transformed into the

out the splendid energies which are

our civilization and making the world
a' better place in evhfch to live. The
sermon was much appreciated not
only by -the cadets but by all the
congregation.

Two names of Clinton students
appear in the exemination results • of
the School of Practical Science, Te-
eonto, published on Saturday, They
are those of Fred J. Wallis, *lib
successfully passed` his firstyear in
architecture, and Willis G. Cooper,
who passed 'his second year wife
honors. It is not the coalmen thing
to take this particular exam. with
honors, it -appears, , as it is five

DEATH OF STANLEY LADY.
The death took place at the home
of M. Rebert Tenney, Huron street,
on Sbnclay night, •of Caroline John-
ston, widow of the late. R. L. Young
of Stanley township.- She was in
her eighty-third year and her death,
was dem to a etroke, which, she suf-
fered about two weeks ago. The de-

- Mrs. Eclevard, Carter passed away
at her home- in Clinton, on Feiday,
aged sixty-nine :Years.
I‘�re. Carter, whose maiden name
was Sarah Broadbent, was born in
New York •State, but she had been
a resident of 'Clinton for about fifty-
one years. She ancl her now bereft
husbhnd celebrated their golden
wedding ahniversary, less than a
year ago. One daughter survives,
who carefully nursed her mother
throfigh her last lilness. She was
a member of Ontario street church.
The, funeral took place from the

Monday afternoon, the services be-

DEATH OF MeDERMID.
The death occurred in Clinton
hospital on Wednesday of John
Duncan McDertilid of the Huron
reed, east, at ethe comparatively ear-
ly early t age of forty-two years.
Mr, leloDerinicr was the youngest
011 of the late AtiguseleIcHermid and
01 Mes. MeDermid of Seaforth" and
had Spent almost all his life on the
farm which was his home at the
time of his death. He was in the
ffieine of life and had always en-
joyed robust health until within a
week or so of the end, when he com-
plained of net feeling .11511, When

rushed to the hospital and operated
on for appendicitis But he died
two days •later,
Mr, McDermid Was st good neigh-
bor and possessed. many qualitiee
which endeared him to his .Crienda.•
He was a Presbyterian, being a
member at the Settforth Presbyter-

wife, who was 'formerly Mise Mc-
Gregor, his mother and sistete Miss
living in Seatorth, a sister,
Mrs. (Dr, ), Briggs of Cleveland,
Ohio, and one brothee, Malcolm Mc-
Dermid, who lives on the adjoining
