William W. Thornton died at his
home here on ,Sarturday evening,
following a paralytic stroke which
he sufferer, ten days ago. Ivir.
Thornton was born in DereAham
townsbiir, near Ingersoll, on June
20th, 1864, the third son of the late
John Thodnton and Mary Stockdale,
When six years of age, he came with
his parents to Morris township,
where he had since resided. Sistr-
four years ago he was carried to
Esther Ann Roe, who predeceased
him about 11 Years ago. He was a
staunch Conservative in politics and
a member of the Bluevale United
Church, .and a lifelong member of
the L:O1L., No, 766, having joined
at the age of 18 years. He also be-
longed to the S'ca.rlet Chapter and
Royal Black Knights of Ireland
The funeral was held on Monday
afternoon from the United Ohudch,
conducted by Rev. Campbell Tave-
ner, The aet'Uice at the graveside
was under the auspices of the
Orange Order, conducted by Wor'
ahipful Master Earl Hamilton In.

The Jamestown War Workers
held their regular monthly tea . in
Victoria Hall on Thursday, Sep-
tember 11th with 38 ladies in at-
tendance. Captain Thompson, of
the Salvation Army at . Wingham
addressed the group, explaining 13
detail the work of the Red Shield
Auxiliary and also made an appeal
for warm clothing, as there will IP
no more surnaner clothing go .over-
seas. The meeting was closed by
singing the National Anthem, , after
which a dainty tea was served. The
hostessies were Mrs. A. McICercher,
,Mrs. F. Mclilay, Mrs. Stokes, Mrs.
G. Johnston, Mrs. R. McLennan and
Mrs W. Gray. The proceeds of
the tea amounted to $8.35. A bale
was packed, consisting of the'f'fol.
