Comet Due Soon
Will Be Visible
Can Be Seen By Naked Eye
Some Time in December
Astrologers, whose cult has been
dealt with blows for many de-
cades by astronomical science but
who still have a large following,
are attempting to make use of the
coming comet and tie it up wito
events on earth,
'Scientists at McGill last week
laughed rat their claims, pointing
out that the only observable effect
on earth oR comets is that produc-
ed on the mind of the observers
Comets, Which travel at colossal
speed, are composed of relatively
little solid material.

PERTH'S OLDEST
RESIDENT PASSES
IN HER 106th YEAR
Listowel, .Dec. 7,—Perth county
is mourning the death of its oldest
resident, Mrs.' Margaret Hamilton.
She passed away during her sleep
on Thursday night about 11 o'clock.
The late Mrs. Hamilton was in .her
10Gthi year.
One of Listowel's best known
residents, the late Mrs. Hamilton
had lived here for 52 years and
always prided herself on being in
good health. It is only within the
last .three weeks that she was con-
fined to her bed and the cause or
her death was given as "old age."
.She ,had not been ill.
Widow of Robert Hamilton, the
departed woman was born at
-Castle Douglas, Scotland, on Octc
ber 9, 1395. She came to Canada
when nine years of age, crossing the
Atlantic .from Liverpool in a sail-
ing boat. Tale voyage took four
weeks.
,Settling in Galt. the late Mrs.
Hamilton met her husband there
and atter their marriage moved t1
Lebanon, where they farmed until
coming to Listowel 52 years ago.
Mr. Hansilton passed away 24 years
ago.
For many years the departe'l
woman was a staunch member of
and a devout worker in Knox Pres-
byterian church,

daughters. They are: William, at
whose home she passed away, Sam-

Don't Fold
The Sheets
"Aluminum. foil collected for war
charities may have a value as high
as 14 cents a pound, but only if the
stheets are not folded or rolled into
ballsr" G. C. Bateman, metals son•
troller of the Department of Muni-
tions and Supply, said.
He explained in a statement that
when rolled up the value of the foil
may be lower than three cents: a
pound; .because some of the sheets
likely will be made of tin or other
metals,
"I1 all foil sheets are merelY
smoothed fiat and handed to tae
organisations engaged in their col-
lecting throughout the Dominion,
sorting difficulties will be largely
eliminated and the war charities
will benefit much more sebstantial-
ly," Mr, Bateman said.
ARCTIC EIDERDOWN
A new industry which has sprung
up in Arctic Canada should bring
prosperity to the 1,500 Eskimos liv-
ing at the region. The Department
of Mines and Research at Ottawa
has given permission to the Hudson
Bay Company to collect eid'erdown,
on the bird sanctuaries along the
coast of Baffin Island. The cal-
lecting will be done by Eskimos
in the slack period between hunt-
ing' and trapping seasons, and they
are being taught to pick the down
without scaring the ducks and caus-
ing them to abandon their homes -
The authorities believe that the drat
season's pickings will bring in
thousands of pounds of down, atfd
provide the Eskimos with much-
needed goods.
