Celebrates Birthday
Mrs, Henry Wheeler who le mak-
ing
aking her home with her daughter,
Mrs. Wm. Wright, Brussels, cele-
brated her 88th birthday last Wed-
nesday, May 8, Many friends and
neighbors called daring the after-
noon
fternoon and she also received good
wishes from friends in Montreal,
Toronto, Hamilton, Fort Erie and
Wingeam, Mrs. Wheeler's health
has not been very good' but has im•
proved during the past few months.
A host of friends and relatives wish
her many more happy birthdays.

To Be Green, White
License plates for 1941 in Ontario
will 'have a white bcaltground and
tate figures will be In green, it was
announced this 'week at Queen's
Park,
Government officials said the
green is of a dark shade that will
Provide plenty of contrast to the
white background and make the
plates easy to read. This will avoid
i the difficulty experienced in 1038
when the background and figures
were neutral shades of blue and red.
Plates this year have black
figures on a yellow background. The
plates are made at the Ontario Re-
formatory at Guelph, Ont.

THOMAS E. AMES
CONTRACTOR, DIES
Thomas' Edward Ames, 24, for 58
years prominent in the contracting
and building trades of Winnipeg,
died suddenly at the MIsericordia
hospital Wednesday. Mr. Ames
had enjoyed excellent health until
a few hours before entering the
hospital. He was born in Ethel,
Ont., came to Winnipeg in 1882 and
for many years operated a railroad
construction company, later enter-
ing the general contracting busi-
ness.
For many years Mr. Aures wee
active In fraternal orders and was
a member of the I.0.0.2'. and the
Masonic lodge. Survivoa•s include
four daughters, Mrs'. Thomas Ains-
worth, Louisville, Ky., Mrs. Frank
Sharkey, Cleveland Ohio; Mrs.
Ernest Musgrove and Mrs. J. S.
Enright, both of ''W'innipeg; three
sdsters, Mrs. D. C. Ross, Brussels,
Ont„ Mrs, A„ McAlester, Oakville,
Ont., and Mrs. J, T. Durgin, Can-
ton, Ohio; one brattier Joseph Ames
Ethel, Ont.; one granddaughter,
Miss Dorothy Musgrove and one
grandson, Wallace Ainsworth.
Funeral service was: held Fri-
day at 2 p.m, at Mordtte's, with
burial in Brookside eematery. Rev.
J. W. Cearke officiated and the
pallbearers were Sari Currie, Jack
Henning, James. Maly, John. Mc-
Leod Thomas Wright and "Thomas
Mc.Oomb.

Posters warning against the dis-
cusion of military matters

buildings. "Be careful" they said.
'"Do not discuss' naval, military or
air matters:' The appearance of
the pesters followed by many
months: the warming given in Eng-
land against discussing matters that
in any way might give information
to the enemy.

The 26th annual meeting of the
MeItland. Presbyterial Society of the
WeVI.S. of the Presbyterian Church
in Canada met in Melville church
here an Tuesday, The three ses-
sions', were all well attended and
the meetings were both interesting
and instructive. Worship services
were hold, business matters were
dealt With and several splendid ad-
dresses were given. A full account.

MRS. SAMUEL DODD
A respected citizen of Borrie
Passed away on Sunday, April 2S
in the person of Ellen Maria
Davis, beloved wife of Samuel
Dodd, at her home on Park St.
The deceased had been in ill health
for some time, and although not un-
expected, death came suddenly,
Ellen Maria Davis was the el&
est daughter 00 the late W, Davis
and Mrs. Mary Davis, and was in
her 63rd year. She was born is
Shakespeare, Ont., August 15, 1877e
and was raised in Brussels, Ont„
where she received her education.
Coming to Barrie es a young wo-
man, she met and married Samuel
Decel in 190e, and since that time
had resided continuously at her
home on Park and ]Eccles Ste, She
was a member of First Baptist
Church, Barrie, and until recently
had attended regularly. Her In-
terests were mainly in her home
and family and she was an ardent
grower of flowers. 00 a kindly and
friendly dis'positiou, she was a goad
neighbor and had a wide range of
friends In the neighborhood.
Surviving are her husband; one
daughter, Mrs. Geo, Hook, Barrie;
her mother, Mrs, Mary Davis; Bar-
rie; three sisters, Mrs, E. F, Smith,
Barrie;
Airs. A. Ha3rn, Rochester.
N.Y.;Mrs. John Dosid Aurora, and
one brother, George Davies Bras.
