"0 Little Town of Bethlehem"
Dr. Brooks wrote 00 Little Town
of Bethlehem" while living in Philo-

set the hymn to music. The inspira-
tion for the composition came to the
organist the night before the hymn
was to be used in a Christmas pro-
) gram.

The survival -power of Christmas
Hs persistence as a world-wide fes-
tival, ]sea in, the fact that dt quickens
in all of us the sense of human kin-
ship, It gets beneath the surface
cynicism, releases those finer im-
pulses which we all possess. For a
day we become again as "little chil-
dren" and the child in, our midst is
the symbol of the joy which we
seek,
A Merry Chrismas then—mer'rY
because it brings to us the vision of
love ruling in the hearts of men,
and renewed hope that the dream of
a day may yet become the perpetual
reality.
