To the Editor,
Brussels, Poet
Dear Sirt-
May I •take some of your valuable
erpa'ce to comment on the Commun-
ity 'Christanas• tree celebration held
In our town, last 'Saturday.
I consider this effort a 'splendid
gesture on the Rant of the W. I. and
°there who make this possible. Of
all holiday occasions throughout
the, year, Christmas, is especially a
children's, teatival and he who is
moved to make a child happy will be
richly blesised'.
Unfortunately, last 'Saturday,
there were some little children wbo
were Yana teenly 'disappointed
when Santa's .pack became empty
too soon. It waersi't the fault of thee*
who planned the gifts. Neither was
it the fault of those who distributed
the gitts. But what might have
been a 'perfect day was marred by
the thoughtlessuesy and sel$shness
of a fen' who I hope bad the grams to
be ashamed when they realized
what they had done.
Let me ask two euestiosn.
1. Why shoul<t a young lady, who
has reached the age of powder, 11P-
atick, rouge and boyfriends, re•
ceive a gift intended for a child of
five or six?
2. Wby should any child receive a
second bay of candy for 'baby sister'
or ;baby brotber,' when that sister
or breather Is either imaginary, or
elseils holding hili own somewhere
iar-tpie Une? •
believe Mr. Editor, in construc-
tive crdtioiem and: to that end, I
offer some suggestion.
1. Let it be distinctly understood
that the treat is for the children,
• say o8 public siohool age. Of course,
if there were any surplus, it might
be given to the young ladles • and
young men of the High School.
2. Require each ch•ildl receiving a
bag to .appear' In person -either by
himiselit or accompanied' by parent
or friend, Allow no bags to be
collected by proxy _ unless in
s'pedial eireumastancee such as when
some re tensible Volans -up might
ask for a bag for a child who was
ill or confined with a 'broken limb,
etc.
In closing Mr. Editor, may I ven-
ture to hope that those of us who
love little children will seek to
make this annual occasion a truly
